Even though she spoke to her mate, she continued to stare at the pup, as if doing so would somehow wake him back up. Maybe, maybe it was still a dream. Maybe she would wake up, and Peregrine would be there, and the sandy boy would be romping with his siblings again. How could she do this? How could she do this to Peregrine?
