It was pissing down with rain that day, and the prospect of returning to square one - wandering the rain-soaked valley alone - rooted Grimm to the fringes of the Caldera forest, staring north. Maybe tomorrow. It was the third time in a row that she had put off the inevitable.
She took to sniffing around a decaying log, sticking her head in one end to see if there was anything interesting going on in the dark - and, of course, got stuck.

poor lonely thread!
Jaws was on his way back to his den to shelter there for a while and dry his coat. It just so happened that his chosen path brought him right by Grimm, with her head unceremoniously trapped in a rotting log. The coywolf watched in silence as the young female struggled, but it did not seem she was going to get herself out. Jaws was not inconsiderate and would not leave her stranded, certainly, but he was a rogue and seized the opportunity for a bit of fun with his subordinate. He snuck up behind her and with no warning, roughly mounted her and thrust against her a few times.
"You shouldn't leave your ass undefended!" he called out with a chuckle as he dismounted.

Grimm's first feeling was one of deja vu, closely followed by the three-eyed offspring of horror and curiosity. Something had gone down in the vicinity of her rear end, and she recognized that voice.
Grimm placed both paws on either side of her head and pushed - but to no avail. The decaying trunk was sturdier than it looked, and her head seemed to have swelled. She grinned inside her damp, stinky helmet of wood. "Yeah, well.. rather you than a bear?"

"Glad you prefer me to a bear," he commented dryly, watching as Grimm attempted to free herself but to no avail. Thoughts of tormenting her a bit more before helping her escape her prison were only fleeting, partly because he did not immediately think of something. So Jaws loomed above her, sizing up the log, before opting to just chew and tear at it. His chin pressed against her as his long canines sunk into the bark. Fortunately the log was well decayed and came apart in chunks without too much strain. When he thought he had created enough space, he seized Grimm's scruff and started to haul her back, hoping she would pull free.

"Glad you prefer me to a bear," he replied humourlessly. "I think I prefer you to a lot of things," Grimm flirted from her musty home, unsure what to make of his tone but choosing to plough on despite it. She recalled the conclusion of their last encounter with clarity, and the thought of it filled her with a schoolgirl brand of giddiness.
The log came apart between Jaws'.. jaws, and after a few tugs, a heave, and a squeal, Grimm was free. She shook the debris from her dark ruff, losing spittle through her openly smiling mouth in the process. "Thanks dude," she chirped, raising the bleached hind leg to scratch crap out of her ear whilst speaking to him. "So we're both still here! That's pretty good going."

"Did you think we'd be going somewhere?" Jaws questioned with a raised brow as she used a hind paw to dislodge debris that had fallen into her ear. He knew she had felt out of place and had upset the pack, so no doubt the young girl contemplated the stability of her future. But his question was more rhetorical than anything, as he did not give her more than a moment to respond. Jaws had been busy working the log and hauling her out of said log to respond to her earlier comment, but now that she was free he made his remark. "What sort of things do you prefer me to?" he challenged, a devilish glint in his eyes which were fixated upon her face. "Why do you prefer me?"
