The land he walked upon could only be describe as a barren wasteland. Ripley stared blankly as the emptiness stretched before him, seeming to go on for miles and miles. What the hell had happened here? The place didn't smell of ash, so he figured it wasn't any sort of forest fire. And... Well, that was actually the only thing he could think of that it might've been. Not even the weirdly numerous amount of dead grasshoppers he traipsed across really clued the old wolf in on what might have been. Most wolves would see this phenomenon and think that maybe they were related, but not Ripley. Save for his first consideration that maybe the whole place had recently burned down, he hadn't spared the scenery another thought.
The remains of whatever forest he was in rose up around him. Ripley wove casually between the former trees, musing at how much they reminded him of animal bones. The thought didn't bother him much, but he did start to worry a smidgen when finally he realized how little life there was around him at all. Not a bird in the sky, not a squirrel skittering about the dead wreckage. This would not do. With a rumble, he realized he was hungry, and shortly after experiencing this epiphany, the permanent frown that was fixed upon his face deepened into a near scowl.
Ripley set his nose to work then, but still his pace did not quicken from the leisurely mosey he'd been using since approximately summer of 2010. Nearly an hour passed by with no luck before he happened upon a faint scent as he rubbed his side along the rough side of a tree to scratch an itch. There was something there upon its roots that intrigued the old wolf, and so he began to follow it without showing the tiniest bit of excitement at the fact that he might have found something that would keep him from starving to death in this hell on earth he'd come to.

-Inserts Laika-... I hope you don't mind! <3
It was the young wolf's second time visiting these woods -- or Shadewood as her and Spring enjoyed to call it -- since the pack took refuge by the creek. From the start, this barren, lifeless forest called to her. Her piercing blue eyes raked along her suroundings, bouncing off every tree and rock in sight. A flicker of movement caught her eye and her hackles raised in suspicion. Not many wolves where in these parts now that the damned locuts had come through. And of course, there was literally no prey... so what was it? Laika decided to take her chances and started padding briskly over towards where the motion had been. Maybe it wasn't anything, but she just had to see and make sure.
With her head down the silver female with her ruffled fur a skinny frame moved through the thickets of trunks and leafless bushes that popped up here and there. Undergrowth was not all that common down here because it seemed that the sun could hardly reach it's rays though the thick canopy of leaves that was once shimmered atop the trees. Even without them, the branches were entangled together in a strange type of beauty.
Laika continued on until a figure came into view. It was in fact was wolf, and Laika was slightly surprised. The tree trunks provided no suitable hiding spots so she didn't hide. Perhaps she should talk to this wolf, find out what their business being here was, but then again, this was neutral land. She always had the strange sensation to protect this forest, and Laika was never so sure where or why this feeling presented itself. She continued to grow closer to the stranger, but remained a good few yards away.
