Nothing better than taking a piss in the middle of the winter and knowing that the tip of your tug toy won't likely skim the top of the snowy field, or that halfway down the piss freezes, scaring the bejeebers out of you. Yep, it was going to be a fine day, Skoonka could tell. He was fired up, and had already taken a gallop out yonder before the sun rose. Now, amidst the glen, he could watch the brightly painted sky shift above him, as the daylight's first few rays welcomed the morning. This here wasn't a bad spot, he thought to himself, trotting along in wide, aimless loops. There was plenty of grass to forage, and nowhere for predators to hide. As it was, Nechako was the head honcho, and not him. Skoonka had never led a herd in his life, might not have a lick of know-how when it came to being a leader, but if it had been up to him, he would have settled here. This was a good place, a great place! To drive that point home, the boy rolled right over, coating himself in dusty white snow, and with a grunt of effort, pushed himself back up again.
He was living the good life. Maybe, since this place was so great, he might even find a couple of pretty lil' fillies to take back with him.

Some sort of weird deer, she decided. fat, larger and without a set of horns, though definitely male. her brow furrowed as she watched it from afar, eyes set on it as she tried to figure out exactly what had gone so wrong with the deer to have it turn out thus. her hunger had been sated a while ago, and even if it had not been, she would not have eaten this thing.
deciding staring was a poor plan, she stood, shaking the snow from her pelt with a stiff shake and approaching at a casual walk, stopping suddenly when the thing decided to roll in the snow a moment. taken aback, it was a moment before she continued, calling out as she approached, "Hey! Weird deer!"
if her approach were not enough to catch attention, her words ought to, and hopefully drive home the point that she was none the least interested in eating him, merely finding out what, exactly, he was.

He could imagine himself sliding up to some hot mamas, flicking his tail coyly, his chest puffing out. Inevitably, he would open with a smooth line, followed by a casual introduction. No biggy, pretty lady, but you're staring at the hottest piece of horse steak this Great Bear Wilderness has to offer. No, he wasn't just some deer. His brow furrowed, and he snapped to attention, ears flicking back in annoyance of having his reverie interrupted, and then pinning back in absolute fear. Freezing, he could feel his nostrils flare, hot air puffing out in hefty bursts.
It had been a long time since he had seen a wolf, but he could recognize one instantly. They were overgrown canine creatures, a little bolder than coyotes, usually found in pairs, or larger groups. This one was alone, yapping at him unintelligably. He wanted to make it stop just as much as he wanted to turn tail and flee. After all, he was too young, too handsom to be eaten!
But then, all of a sudden, Skoonka remembered his day dream. He could practically smell the sweet, sickening scent of mares in estrus. What if this odd, lone wolf was preventing him from connecting with the babe of his dreams? Headstrong and full of testosterone, it did not take much to convince the bay wildie that the predator posed an imminent threat to his imaginary harem. Future harem, he reassured himself, shaking out his mane in an agitated manner. They were out there, somewhere beyond this wolf-obstacle.
With an obstinant snort, he found himself stepping back warily, his right hoof pawing at the ground. He tucked his chin to allow himself a better look at the small creature, and then stomped about, conveying his prowess. Ah, yes, the lone wolf would fear him now! She did not seem to be entirely threatening, but predators were cunning and vile creatures. While she may not want to eat him, he was almost certain that her underlying plan was to keep him from getting to the ladies. Just like Nechako.

The deer-thing reacted poorly to her approach, and as the reason for this could be a great many things, including the fact that she was likely to eat the creature, she did not waste time on trying to deduce the exact reason why. Instead, a brow raised at the gall of the not-deer, stomping about like some great ruler.
Wondering just how brave the not-deer was, and if it wad a potential source of a future meal, she was tempted to antagonize it further. But deciding that it seemed rather violent, with a flick of her tail she departed, back for her home in the Willows.
