It was time.
All day she'd been feeling a little off. First off she'd been more hungry than she could ever remember being in her life, she'd been having the worst backache all day and just in general she felt like a mess.
As evening came around she began to realize what all of this meant and what it was leading to. It was time for her to retire to the birthing den. At first fear settled through her. She and Heston were going to be parents now. She was actually having kids again. She took a few calming breathes, but still it did little to quench her fear.
She made her way to the birthing den as quickly as she could with plenty of bathroom breaks in between and upon arriving found she just couldn't settle. First she would want to stand, then she'd be wanting to lay down, up, down, up, down, up, down... and then the first contraction came and she found herself on the floor of the deem, gritting her teeth.
The first one came out easier than she had suspected and instinctively cleaned the pup, who would soon to be known as Soren, from it's birthing sack. It was a stark white, along with some red blood covering it's pelt. She licked her child, her heart blossoming with love until finally the next contraction came.
The next one was a little harder than the first and she closed her eyes shut in exertion. Soon enough though the contractions passed and out slipped an bloodied white pup who would one day be known as @Seri. Instantly she began to clean this one too, clearing her from her birthing sack.
For a moment she thought it was over as she pulled her two perfect, beautiful children to her teats, but as the contractions came back, she settled into the realization of no, there would be more.
She panted heavily as she got ready for this one, a groan escaping her. She loved them all, but God, did it really have to hurt this much?
She he let out a breath of relief as the third pup slipped from her, and instantly nipped the birthing sack from her sweet little girl, soon to be known as @Soni. It was a black pup this time and her heart exploded with pride. They were all so beautiful.
The last one was the hardest.
She let out a cry of pain. "Shit, shit, shit," she whispered painfully to herself.
The last one was easily the biggest, he was a nice grey like his Father, which made her glow with warmth, towards the pup who was soon to be know as Hinton. They were all perfect. They were her's and Heston's and she wouldn't have it any other way.
With that she howled for her mate, @Heston, summoning him to meet their new children, whom she already adored.

In the beginning, there was naught. Warmth and silence, the slightly protruding limbs of her siblings; it was all Soni had known. That was until the fateful eve of her birth, at which point she emerged into the world, was licked clean by who she would eventually know as her mother, and screamed until she could scream no more. The child had the lungs of a wolf much older than she, and she would find it quite enjoyable to point this out to her various denmates (especially her father!). Once her mouth was filled with a fleshy teat and the warm milk it yielded, her yelps and whines stopped, and she found herself drifting into a sweet, serene sleep.

At first she could only feel. Feel movement around her as her siblings kicked within their mother's belly. It felt cramped in here, she thought, as her and her siblings grew, fighting over room within this small space. Then as her brother left the space seemed to grow, but not as big as the world she was pushed into a moment later.
It was colder than she was used to and Seri whimpered to the unfimilarity of it. The warmth returned as her mother licked her free of the blood and other things clinging to her body. She was now on a solid surface, out of her mothers belly and even at this very young age wanted to see what else was out there.
But before she could crawl away she was pushed against her mother and beside her brother and soon her other siblings. More interested in the taste of milk she set asside her endever as she suckled from her mother's teat. The liquid was warm and it tasted amazing. She drank till she though she couldn't anymore before, falling asleep.

Spring had been restless, slightly out of sorts for the entirety of the day. Of course, thought nothing of it. He attempted to pamper her at first and then soon decided to keep a safe distance and allow her space. She hadn't done anything rude, but she already had however many bodies inside of her own, she didn't need another hovering at her hip. So he had left her to it. He had gone to check the borders, make sure everything was right.
He wanted the borders pristine for his children's arrival, so he could keep a closer watch on them. The thought of the phrase my children, or our children still seemed a little strange to him. With the kids all bundled up in Spring's insides, it was easy to forget that they would come out. He'd have kids and he'd have to watch them and keep them from killing themselves. It was scary. Exciting, but scary. He had always wanted children, but the reality of having them had only occured after Spring had told him she was pregnant. But they would come out. And soon.
His thoughts buzzed through his mind as he marked here and there, lifting his leg and scratching as he saw fit. Soon Spring will start to behave strange, he knew at least that childbirth was painful and involved contractions. She'd hide in her den, restless and likely angry. And then she wouldn't be pregnant anymore, and the kids would be out. He'd be a father for real and true. He'd have to watch her, he told himself, for any signs of strange behaviour or restlessness. He even nodded as he thought this, for he considered himself ever the thoughtful gentleman and mate.
It was in the radio silence that followed this thought, leg raised and prepared to mark yet another tree, that he realized. He stood like that for a moment, frozen in his pose. No, it couldn't be today, could it? He didn't take the time to lower his leg, he simply wheeled about and leapt forward into a run towards the den. He needed to tell Spring. What if the children were coming?
He was nearly there when he heard the howl, her voice tired but undoubtedly elated. Panic and excitement seized his heart all at once with a great jolt. It left him breathless, but he did not slow. He came to a skidding stop outside the den, panting with the effort, attempting to call for Spring.
"Spring...Spring...have you....are we....they've come?" He attempted, stumbling over his words. He lingered at the entrance, afraid to go in. He knew that mother wolves could be fierce, even to their mates, and he didn't want to catch the wrong side of Spring's teeth. Gently and slowly he stuck his head into the dark, eyes widening in an attempt to see how many shapes lay around his mate. He couldn't see yet, he wasn't adjusted yet. He didn't go any further, not yet, not until Spring gave the okay. He could smell something within the den though, a mix of blood and milk, as well as the warm and soft scent of something that was unmistakably a mix of both he had Spring.
"Spring?" He called, voice hushed, nearly begging to enter. "How many? Are they well? Are you well?"

They were so beautiful. She loved them all, every last one. They were perfect. She smiled down on all of them, her heart warming with love.
At the sound of a familiar voice, her eyes flicked tiredly towards the entrance. It was Heston, her mate. She yawned, "come in, there's four of them. They're all perfect." For a moment she paused, "I'm fine too." She just couldn't wait to take a nap.
A part of her had wondered every sine she'd gotten pregnant if this would be easier than the first time, but of course that was not the case, she wwas quite easily just as tired as the first time, but still kept herself awake for the moment, just at the thought of her mate getting to meet their precious children for the very first time.

Spring called for him to enter, and he hesitated only briefly, his heart pounding in his chest. He took a deep breath and pushed further into the darkness. His eyes adjusted after only a moment, and he was greeted with the sight of Spring, curled around the four downy lumps she spoke of. He looked down at the children, unable to speak yet. His eyes traveled over all of them, the different colors and sizes. They were beautiful. He wondered if this was how his father felt, staring down at his litter for the first time.
"Oh, Spring. They're beautiful. You did so well." His voice was hushed, whispered in awe of the great miracle before him. He crawled forward, eyes watching her to make sure he wasn't getting too close for her comfort. He reached his muzzle out, stroking the top of one of the white lumps. He sniffed at it, the one that would be called Seri. A female. He moved in this way down the line, gently rubbing and sniffing them all, revealing their genders. Two boys and two girls. A wonderful litter.
"Two boys and two girls, how perfect, Spring." He breathed. They hadn't talked about names really, he realized. "So...have you named them?" There was a small piece of him that asked with uncertainty. He wanted to be involved in this too. Though he wouldn't show it if she had, he would be slightly hurt if she had named them without him.

At first all he knew was was almost nothing. He floated in his Mother's womb by his siblings, feeling no emotion like pain, fear, regret. He just was.
But that was soon to change.
As he was forced from everything he had once know he felt his very first emotion. Anger. He wanted it all back. Now. Why did he have to leave? He had been so content, but nothing could ever last. That was just a fact of life.
He let out a loud squeal, enjoying the feeling it gave him even though he could hear nothing yet. Then as he found himself at his Mother's teats, the pup who would soon be known as Soren began to suckle, stopping in his squealing if only for a moment.

They were all perfect. Every single one of them. She turned her gaze to her mate, basking happily in the warmth of his words. There children were beautiful.
Now that a bit of time had gone by and she was beginning to calm down she found herself incredibly tired. Still she made sure to stay awake, just so that this moment could last a bit longer.
"I haven't named them yet... but I was thinking. We should use your parents naming system. I like the idea of it. It's sweet." She remarked lovingly to her mate, her heart brimming with happiness and love for the family that they had just started together.

He watched as Spring smiled happily as he spoke, and was overcome with love for the woman. She had labored hard and done so very well. Their children were healthy, and so very beautiful. Her face and eyes were tired, and he wanted to let her sleep, but he needed to know of the names too.
He was pleased to hear they weren't named yet, and felt a sudden rush of pride and gratitude at her suggestion. He smiles warmly at her, reaching to nuzzle her. "That's wonderful. My parents would be honored, Spring. I will let you sleep, and think on some names. In a couple of days we can trade ideas, what do you think?" He reached out to touch her again, and then one of the children.

Sleep. More and more she was beginning to realize that she needed it right now. Still she stayed awake as he spoke a few more words to her, telling her that he'd let her sleep now. She nodded, "sounds good," starting to drift off when suddenly a thought bounced into her mind. There was something that had gone unspoken for to long, something that she needed to tell him.
"I love you," she whispered, with a small smile, then looked down upon there precious children. Already she couldn't image what a world would be like with out them. Funny how it had been exactly that way just yesterday.

Spring's eyelids bobbed up and down as she attempted to stay awake. He smiled softly at her, proud of her, appreciative of her. "I'll have food for you when you wake." He said, a happy rumble in his chest. For a moment she was quiet and he started to back away. But then she spoke again, and he looked back to her. He beamed, watching as she looked down to the children.
It wasn't exactly the right time, with her being so tired, but he couldn't help himself. "Je t'aime aussi." He whispered in return, flashing a mischievous grin. She would likely not realize that he knew how to say more though, for it would have been simple enough to have Natashe tell him this phrase. That surprise he would save. "I have, for a while now I think." He reached to kiss her gently, and then began to back away again. "Sleep, and rest. I'm not going anywhere."
