The way was rocky and the going tough, Uruuk had concluded.

She had opted to travel southeast, along the mountain pass rather than go over it. This seemed an easier route, less dangerous, but it still had its challenges.

The grass was little more than scrub beneath her feet, rough on her paw pads, dry as it was brittle. It cracked underfoot and left small cuts between her toes - she couldn't imagine anything grazing on it.

There seemed to be little prey in these parts, and she survived off carcasses she happened across and stagnant water for there seemed to be few streams in the shadows of the mountains. The fish she'd eaten some days before had not settled well and Uruuk often had to stop to retch up some sort of spoiled meat, for she had little room to be picky.

At dusk, the she-wolf settled in the shadow of a boulder for it offered relief from the setting sun and it's heat. Her stomach ached with a hollow, hungry pain that she did her best to ignore and her mouth felt as dry as the terrain she had trekked over.

Uruuk fell into a restless sleep, dreaming of cool pine forests, cold streams, and a full belly.
