sadhbh knew better. each forest was its own kingdom, its trees recording its history in their rings. each forest had its own villages of bird, rodent, reptile, insect. each forest held its own magicks and mysteries. each had its own treasure to discover. and déjà vu was nothing to brush off; it meant something.
this kingdom of trees meant something. she inhaled deeply, then settled between the thick roots of a sequoia to shelter for the night. in the morning, she would continue her exploration of the wilds, but she committed this place to memory — she would return someday, and puzzle out why this particular land made her bones sing.
