Christ on a tricked-out tricycle, it was cold.

Grimm was a forest girl, born and bred. She was accustomed to having ten cosy hiding places to choose from when bad weather hit, but the icy flat-lands offered nothing of the sort.

Poor timing had landed her on the shores of Greatwater Lake just in time to see cloud sweeping in from the north. Nature was really giving it the business - faced with a rain of ant-sized spears, Grimm didn't dare open her eyes wider than a crack. All around here was empty space and lonely trees, and not a single place to hide.

"Shit," the dark girl muttered, glancing around in desperation.

And so his journey began, the Roman did not mean to abandon Noctisardor Bypass or his children but it was exhausting. The reason he stayed in first place, and not leaving for Noctem Vagus was because of Paarthurnax but now she was gone, carrying his kids in her belly, and they would grow up not knowing their father or Roman culture. Shadow wished for once that men could be the ones with the babies, so they could be with him instead of the Creek, so he would still have a reason to remain, a reason to live on. Selfish but then, Paar was selfish too, not thinking once about him and the pain he would go through. Didn't she know, without him and his body, there wouldn't be pups in her belly. Only with him did she have kids, and he received no gratitude at all.

Resentment bit at him and he scowled angrily. "Curse you Jupiter, damn the fates to the depths of hell. Why do you give with a paw, then take with a smile on your fucking faces?" he growled, tempted to scream instead. His children would grow up thinking he was an entirely bad wolf, and Paar, so weak she was, would not dare to correct them. The Roman was so angry, he was not thinking straight, he wanted to punch something, kick something, meet the gods and yell at them. The leader wanted something to be fair for once. Life was never fair to him, never! Swiftcurrent Creek would have the puppies bearing the blood of Rome and sands, Paarthurnax and Bazi and the rest of the Creek would get to see them and watch them grow up but he, the father would never see them grow. Unfair, he wanted to yell and stamp on the ground like a child having a tantrum.

Shadow's silver eyes were wild now, fierce and bright, the glint in them glowing with abnormal light. Then Jupiter showered his anger down on his descendant, for calling him what he deserved to be called. The Roman faced the king of Olympus brazenly with no fear of death, for what else had he here to live for? Utterly nothing! Everyone he loved, everything he cared about, had been taken from up! What was the use of being death's angel if you couldn't keep the one you love close to you, take care of your own pups? What was the use of having fighting skills if you can't fight? What was the use of leading if there was no one to lead? what was the use of living, if you got nothing to live for?

"Take my life," he taunted the rain, "I've got nothing left, go on, take it." he smirked, the annoying sarcastic but handsome smile. Little did he notice another wolf nearby, with nothing to shield her from the rain. Shadow was too angry, to frustrated, to miserable to care.....yet.

It would be nigh on impossible to overstate the vastness of the chasm that separated Shadow's state of mind from Grimm's. Whilst he laboured under the weight of the word, she was free - hardly a single serious thought had floated through her head since that one time when one of her brothers had suggested that a Lauren had made off with her penis, and that she had better find it before the sun rose and turned it to stone forever.

"Take my life. I've got nothing left, go on, take it."

Startled, Grimm wheeled around to see a tall, regal-looking wolf leering up at the weather. She wasn't entirely sure what to make of the melodramatic outburst - it didn't seem to be directed at her, but there was no-one else around to answer. The dark-eyed female stepped forward a few paces, white hind leg flashing like a lure. "Dude, are you talking to me?"

"Dude, are you talking to me?" Shadow turned to look at the speaker, was she the one to take his life. The gods insult him by sending this weirdo being to end him, he wasn't going to let it happen. The corners of his lips quirked upwards, platinum eyes gleaming with unveiled amusement. "Maybe, maybe not." he grinned. "Why are you even standing in the middle of a rainstorm?" he asked, not really wanting to know the answer. He had the reason, he insulted Jupiter and now the god wished to punish him, like he cared.

The raindrops dropped down from the heavens and splattered on his fur, Shadow shook himself, not really that bothered. Back at home, no, back at Noctem Vagus, he lived forever on open spaces, mountains never wanted to shelter a poor abused wolf, and so he learnt to enjoy the rain, enjoy it as his company. Siblings safe, there was no one to talk to, that was the life he was trying to escape, instead fate decided it inevitable to stop him from having a horrible living, so they flung him a new life, which was almost as bad as the last.

The response was unnecessarily cryptic, and a poor attempt at a witty retort. Grimm furrowed her brows. "I'm deciding where to go," she responded, which was sensible enough. This was an important juncture in her journey, and the choice between left or right could make the difference between waking up alive tomorrow morning, and not. "Why are you talking at it? Are you insane?"

"I'm talking to whoever's going to listen, and if nobody is here, then I'm talking to the rain," he said smoothly, eyeing the female coldly, the smirk on his face not reaching his eyes. "I'm not insane, maybe a bit bloodthirsty, but not insane." Before she could ask anything about him being sure, he added "I'm very sure I'm not crazy or insane or mental." Who was this wolf anyways, the bother him when he was ranting at the gods about his horrible shitty life.

Grimm stared. Clearly, obviously this was not a wolf with a sound mind. With that in mind, she took a few cautious steps away from him, as though he had just informed her of a horrid and hugely infectious disease. "I'll leave you to it," she announced by way of saying farewell, and made speedy tracks in any direction that would see her stay alive to see the next morning.

Concluding, since it's so dated!
