Set at Shield Maiden's Sorrow. :) Open to anyone!

Floki had experienced a lot in his three months of life. The death of his father and the disappearance of his twin weighed heavily on his heart; he was not as playful as he might have been, had these tragedies not occurred. He had been too young to really get to know Ragnar, so he didn't feel the absence of his father as strongly -- but he missed Jorunn. His twin had been his partner in crime and someone he could communicate with wordlessly. Sure, he had Kaylan and Ragna, but he was not as close to his brother and sister; and besides, they tended to keep to themselves.

He had taken to wandering Stavanger Bay, taking in his surroundings and learning all that he could about the territory. His favorite place was the rocky beach, though on this particular day his paws had carried him into the heart of the forest. The air was thick and humid, and it felt as though the leaves were pressing in around him. But suddenly, he stepped into a clearing and the sound of rushing water filled his ears.

Just ahead of him was a lake, and thundering from a mossy cliff face was a waterfall. Floki paused, blue eyes wide as he observed this natural phenomenon. He was familiar with the ocean and the way the waves moved, but this was a completely different rendition of water. He wondered where the flow came from even as he started to move towards the source, his paws pressing softly into the moist earth.

Wandering away from the den was always a process for her. She would go slowly, at first. She would move in fits and starts, keeping an ear turned back to listen for her mother or brothers. Would she be called back? Invariably, no. And so she would wander, farther and farther away until the trees closed in and the land became unfamiliar. Among the dappled shadows, she moved easily, a flash of silver that was there and gone. Ragna moved like a hunter, though clumsily, darting from bush to bush in chase of prey that wasn't there.

If at all possible, she kept to the shadows, to the eaves beneath boughs and rocks and bushes. They provided cover, which was good for a hunter and a warrior, and she fancied herself as both. So she kept to the darkness, until the darkness opened up and the earth began to roar.

Warily, she crept from the trees to investigate. In doing so, she found a great lake and, most surprisingly, her brother. "Floki!" she called, shouting above the din of the waterfall. She wanted to look more closely at it, but it was large and loud, and she was afraid. Ragna wasn't sure if she was heard above the noise, as her voice had always been soft, even when yelling. So she began to follow after him, moving quickly to try and catch up.

Thistle had been watching her children from afar, and when they started to Shield Maiden's Sorrow she followed quickly behind them. She would not lose anymore of her babies, especially not to water. No she was done losing those she loved, if she could stop it. It seemed the Gods found it funny to break her apart on the inside with her losses. It drove her made with worry and she was angry at them. She was very angry. She did what was needed of her, she worshiped them, paid homage to them, but she was still angry and was sure they knew it.

She added swiftness to her step and called out to both of them, Floki! Ragna! Be careful near the edge. SHe continued on hoping they would stop until she could get beside them both. SHe imagined she could catch up to Ragna, but she wasn't sure about Floki.

Thanks for joining! :)

Floki's paws were just centimeters from the edge of the lake when he heard a voice call out behind him, addressing him by name. He stopped, ears perking and head swiveling back. His gaze landed on Ragna, and immediately his tail began to sway. "Hi, Ragna!" he chirped, happy to see that his sister was out adventuring too. The waterfall continued to rumble, drawing his attention once more, and he opened his mouth to ask her if she wanted to try to climb up to the top -- but was interrupted.

Thistle Cloud appeared from the underbrush, her brows knit together not in anger but in concern. While Jorunn might've taken their mother's approach as a cue to race away and try and scramble up the rocks, Floki reacted by lowering his head and tucking his tail between his hind legs. Its tip wiggled in an appeasing manner as he looked up at Thistle.

"Hi, Mama," he said as she closed the gap between herself and her offspring. "We're bein' careful," he assured her, although his words likely wouldn't do much to put her mind at ease.

The waterfall was a great, roaring thing. It captivated her, and she wanted to venture out onto its rocks or into the water of the lake. Wen her brother turned to greet her, tail whipping behind him, she responded in kind. Her tail swayed languidly in her trail as she trotted up to meet him. "Hi!" she called as she drew near. It wasn't often that they were out together. Maybe he would want to play, or go exploring with her!

Their mother appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Her voice rose over the tumult of the water, and Ragna's ears flicked back in shame. From the way their mother looked, it seemed like they were in trouble. But they hadn't even been doing anything. She ducked back, trying to hide behind Floki a bit. And when he told Thistle Cloud that they had been careful, she nodded. "We were, mama," she said, timid as ever but ready to defend that point.

Guys I'm really sorry that I am a crap leader and a crap mommy wolf lately :( I just have a lot going on, but I am trying to get back into the swing of things.

Thistle strode forward and sniffed gently at the two, running her muzzle across their heads. Assuring herself that they were fine, while at the same time trying to alleviate the feelings of shame or what have you. She hadn't meant to startle them, or make them feel as if they were being scolded. She just wanted to be with them, make sure they were careful. She was losing to many she cared about as time moved on.

This is ShieldMaiden's Sorrow. If you aren't careful, you could plunge over the side. Come with me, We'll go further down and I'll show you a fun time. Thistle carefully began stepping down the side of the waterfall, making sure that her children were on the inner side. They could still see the water, but they weren't near the edge to fall off. She imagined they could jump off as she and Julooke had done, just at a lower space.

Rather than scold her children further, Thistle Cloud gave them the name of the waterfall and told them that she would be happy to let them play as long as they found a safer place to do so. This information made Floki's tail raise and start to wave happily. They weren't in trouble, and they got to keep exploring! We have the best Mama ever, he thought as he started to follow her.

The going was a little tough due to the rocky, uneven surfaces, but he moved slowly and tried to mimic Thistle Cloud's careful maneuvers. All along, the water kept on tumbling and churning, even spraying Floki with a mild mist here and there. "It's big, Mama," he commented, pausing to watch the onslaught of liquid for a moment before hastening behind her once more.

No worries! <3

When her mother approached, Ragna tipped her head up into the touch, whining an apology. Ragna followed close behind her brother, trailing last. Diligent as ever, she listened to her mother's explanation, though she still burned with shame for having scared her mother like that. Excitement warred with the shame, though, and she soon found herself darting ahead of them both. She was sure to keep away from the edge, though, to keep from startling her mother again.

Her brother said it was big, and it was, but that didn't stand out the most. "It's beautiful," she breathed, awed. The water plunged over the rocks with all of the fervor and power of nature. It thundered as it struck the rocks below, spraying up a fine mist that coated her fur. A thick, wet scent surrounded them, and the rocks were slick with moss where the water didn't fall. "Mama, can we swim here? I wanna learn how."

Thistle looked about them. They made it far enough down that she felt they could jump off without hurting themselves or each other. She licked the tip of each head and then backing up slowly. She called out, Catch me if you can! Then with a small running leap, she jumped and landed with a splash. She resurfaced and paddled around, keeping an eye on the children. Ready to doggy paddle to them should they find themselves in danger. She would not let them get hurt. There were no rocks they could fall in, the water was deep enough and they were only about 2 feet up. They could do it. And she was here if they coudln't.

Ragna ran ahead and Floki accelerated, though he didn't quite catch up to her. When she stopped, he came to a halt alongside her, peering down at the sheet of water. She asked the question that was on his mind as well, and he turned back to look at Thistle, expecting a verbal response. But instead, she gave a playful cry and threw herself off the ledge.

Floki yelped, worried for his mother's safety for the few seconds that she was underwater. She soon reappeared and he was assured that she was fine, and that she had done it on purpose. She wanted them to catch her! Without a second thought, the boy hurled himself out over the water, feeling strangely weightless until he impacted the surface with a splash.

He plunged below, instinctively moving his legs in order to push himself back above the water. He came up with a gasp, his vision blurred and his mouth full of the cool refreshing liquid as he paddled towards Thistle. "I did it!" he gargled, though he quickly pressed his lips together to keep more water from flooding into his maw.

The little family swam and splashed until the pups grew tired, and then Thistle Cloud escorted her sleepy offspring back to the den.
