The flat-iron mountain rose up along their journeys, which at the head Echelon had been pressing forward. Even here the wreckage existed, but the terrain was manageable. At least for her; she couldn't speak for the others and somewhere along the way they had fallen behind her pace. She was not alone in this venture either, scouting ahead for anything that could have potentially moved to delay them further. Pausing a bit in the grasses that dared to engulf her, Echelon craned her head to try and pick out the fair hairs of @Nanuk. The wolves of the Spine had moved like teeth of a comb across the grasslands, spread evenly and mingling about. This did not waver as they pick and chose who went ahead or who lingered behind. All in all, they stuck together. They hunted where they could, rested when it was warranted. They made good time.

Short post! boo!

The coywolf's eyes would fail to find the tank of a female who, almost comically, was creeping up behind her, moving an inch a minute in the path of grass lain flat. Whether Echelon had truly not noticed her or not, Kroc was unaware but it did not save her from her fate. One moment, she was safe and the next, the pale creature was pouncing, arm grappled around the smaller wolf's neck while her teeth worried at Echelon's ear, in her own version of 'gentle' of course. For her attack, Kroc would take her lumps but holy fuck, she was tired of aimlessly walking around.

i legit cannot write a serious post with this character any more

i'm not even trying to at this point

i haven't even had any alcohol i'm just that tired

She found her, alright.

She found her when this gigantic flash of white just appeared out of the brush, almost so far behind her that it wouldn't have mattered anywhere because Echelon was just that unlucky. She snarled with fury over the gnawing of her ear, though it hardly bothered her, and weaseled her way away from Nanuk. Fur tousled and left even more askew, she carried on her belly aching.

Gee golly whiz, someone's a sore loser.

And that belly aching turned straight up into a sort of coyish baying, though she would not have been surprised if anyone answered her. Tonravik was probably popping a squat somewhere else again and merely having a chuckle to herself. Anyone in the pack who didn't know her was probably wondering what the fuss was all about. It wasn't even a rallying call. It was just harmless noise making, driving off all the game within earshot because that was going holy fuck what is that.

But she was also tired of the walking and lazily, given that they were either so far away or so far ahead, Echelon rolled through the grass. Fairly, she smeared the loam and the grit along her features before peering back at the pale Nanuk. Oh right, she wasn't Tonravik. Usually she reversed this sort of asinine behavior for her. Whoops.

The snarl only spurned her actions, laughing outright as she started up with noises of the other half of her heritage. Her tail waving once or twice as the other squirmed around in the grass, Nanuk waisted no time in rushing her, her train-like body gaining speed quickly before she moved to pounce again. She did not land on the other but just beside her, her front half down in the grass as she bared her teeth to loose a snarl, attempting to goad the hybrid into helping her pass time by being right assholes to one another.

She did not wait for a response, her large form moving, lunging to snap at the other's tail and drag her around in the grass. Maybe then, she could make some crop circles and befuddle everyone who wasn't present for its occurrence.

lmfao i even forgot about my last response to this thread and burst out laughing at it. i need to really stop laughing at my own bad jokes that aren't usually even remotely close to a joke.

Huh, well that went better than expected. Nanuk didn't even seem phased in the slightest. Awesome. And that glance back to Nanuk was merely just enough for Echelon to realize that she was about to be smothered half to death in the grasslands; she didn't even have quite enough time to get away properly. Not that it was entirely necessity when a flash of white turned up at her side than being a growing shadow that enveloped her into pure darkness.

So she answered that snarl with one of her own, forcing herself upright as Nanuk's teeth snapped swiftly through the air at her hocks. Echelon did what Echelon usually did best, and that was bolting off and snaking across the terrain. Maybe if she could lose Nanuk for the briefest of moments, she could return that surprise shock and awe event.

Either way, being a crop circle generator was enough to make her nope out of that situation for a moment. She liked her tail.

Nanuk was not deterred by the darker female's snarl, though when she suddenly ran off, it took the Beta a moment to run after her. Echelon was quick, however, as was natural to her size and heritage. Though she realized that chasing after the other would expend a large amount of energy, she did it anyway, with the intent to burn the excess energy off.  If she tired herself out, perhaps she'd be able to sleep tonight.

First though, she'd have to figure out where the little shithead went. Her head swung from one side to the other, looking for her rambunctious quarry. A rumble of irritation swept through the beast's vocal chords for a moment before she put her nose to the ground to start the process of locating her.

She lost her, though she did not assume it was easily. Echelon slowed her race through the grasses, pausing briefly to regain her breath as nothing more than a dark shadow against a wild rock outcropping. Faintly, she heard the irritated growl of Nanuk somewhere out there, but did not readily spot her. Just as well, as once she had cooled the worst of her proverbial jets, she was back through the grasses towards her.

Only it was not a direct approach towards her. Calculated and calmly, Echelon stepped carefully and quiet. If not for her size, she probably would have made a good hunter, but in reality she was far from it. And her prey so to speak was not the small flavor she often pursued — she was that of a bear. And rightly so, Echelon treated her as such. Like night and day, the nature of their game shifted for her, though she would not draw blood unjustly. Staying downwind of the bear-like she-wolf, she threaded the needle as quietly as she could past her.

Their game continued, Nanuk's nose working as she searched for the trail of scent the coywolf had left behind. Signs of the grass having parted to allow the passage of an animal led her one way, pushing through the greenery to track the maker of such a marked trail. Echelon's familiar scent led her in multiple directions and she briefly wondered if she had gotten turned around somehow. Looking back, the Tartok wolf could not spot anything of note that would tell her "you've gone this way before, nitwit" and so continued her tracking, pausing every now and then to try and get her bearings.

Needless to say, tall grasses were not her strong suit, as were mountains and rock faces. Those, she could navigate and trak upon in relative ease. Something about the tall plant life, however, kept her from being adept at it. She figured this was practice though, in the event that she truly had to search through the grasses to find someone or something.

She continued back in the opposite direction for a few more moments, until a satisfactory note came to her. Nanuk was more than likely still going along trying to find her, and the urge to backtrack once more to follow her tickled at her funny bones. A toothy smile came to her for just a moment as she turned again, this time repeating her calculated steps as she made her way back.

But she did not draw in close, instead lingering some distance behind where the grasses could obscure her well; she wanted to hear if the bearish she-wolf would become frustrated. Though the success of such was marginal at best, as she knew that Nanuk was also a determined individual. Still, Echelon would keep her ruse up as long as she could, whether it ended with one of them giving up or her being found.

Fade this soon? It's a little aged lol

She was absolutely getting frustrated as there were times when patience escaped her. Now was one of those instances that found her growling under her breath as she searched and searched and searched for the smaller female. She would pick up a strong instance of Echelon's scent and then lose it again in the natural labyrinth of grass, unable to keep from getting turned around it seemed.

So fed up was she that her anger got the better of her, leaning down to catch roots of grass in her teeth and attempting to tear them up. When that didn't work, the Beta practically threw herself on the ground and began to roll back and forth to flatten the grass before getting up and moving to a different spot to repeat the process. If she had to, she'd flatten this whole goddamn plain of grass to flush out her sentient quarry.

yeaaah, probably should. this thread is testament to the fact that sometimes i lose track and get incredibly slow, wooo. fade with your last post?

It was amusing to observe her, Echelon decided. The way that the frustration did more than just seep into her being — it flowed and emanated easily. It surged and Nanuk may as well have bellowed with some primal rage towards the fact that she had lost the inky wolf midst the span of tall, damp grasses. The urge to snort with laughter at her was almost too much to resist, but Echelon refused to give in to the desire. Instead, it was merely a silent exhale pushed out away from her as she stalked after the larger she-wolf.

So when Nanuk's course of action disintegrated into steamrolling gross, Echelon chose to make her appearance. She did wait a few moments, letting the bear-like wolf flatten and destroy the natural sway and stance of the terrain. She let her put all that effort into making a scene and letting some of her frustrations vent before making it very obvious where she was. And when she did come out on the scene, the expression that crossed her countenance was merely apart of that charade — Echelon looked down at Nanuk in a mixture of confusion and concern, as though to non-verbally say what the hell is wrong with you?

Yep yep! I got this. And no worries. We went back and forth on being slow <3 Minor PP for here at the end!

Freeze. Echelon appeared and for a moment, Nanuk stared at her, eyes boring holes into the darker female's form. She was invisible one the moment and there the next and just as suddenly, the polar bear exploded upward to tackle the other and pin her to the ground with her weight. This lasted only a few moments before she rolled off and stood once more, huffing as she shook out her pelt.

With all that out of the way, she looked at Echelon again. What? Nothing, of course. They went on about their travels shortly after that, Nanuk's energy burned away to allow her to be fairly calm once more.
