Sesi had never seen anything like it. Being five months old and on the unadventurous side, this wasn't exactly an uncommon feeling - there wasn't much in Phoenix Maplewood that hadn't earned a bewildered, somewhat frightened stare from its new inhabitant.
But this really was unbelievable. Even Saena would think so - unless she was already aware that she shared her territory with a huge, squishy dinosaur. Sesi stared at Ned, and Ned stared back. She had fished a couple of newts out of the slow-moving brook last week, and knew enough about them now to appreciate that this particular specimen was unusually large. Enormous, really. He sat in the middle, parting the water with his wide, speckled body - indistinguishable from the surrounding rocks were it not for his huge, pearl-like eyes. They stared up at the silvery paw that was reaching out across the water with the intention of booping him on the head.
