Cedar Sweep put the pieces back together my way

He had never gone this far from the point, or even the sweeping strath which had always been his perfect home. Ideally he would never have to leave it, with the many hidden places he could explore to keep himself fed; the water of the adjacent marsh and the northern falls supplemented his needs. But the world had been ravaged while the great beast slept.

The trees that now surrounded him were the tallest things he'd ever seen (although his beady eyes did not wander too far up. In his mind they went, went went, neverending, in to the sky. Perhaps they held the sky up -) but they were bare here too. Wedging himself between a set of tightly growing cedars, Mortar felt the grating of the bark upon his skin as he forced his shoulders - then hips - through the gap between them.

Eventually he would find something, he thought. His belly gurgled as he walked, his pace sluggish, but no matter where he sniffed and no matter how many trees he passed or stones he overturned with massive paws, he found nothing of substance.

Because why not throw in my new girl with a bear :D hope you don't mind! Tagging Gian for visibility.

Perhaps the ivory female wandered a bit far from the place @Giancarlo had said they would be staying for a while. Shed been leaving sporadic markers as she went, making not only a clear line to and from where she was going but also letting herself feel dominant over this neutral place. It wasn't the family's, and not even where they would be spending most of their time. Giana was pleasing her own selfish desires without a cause, no more. A strange scent hit her, however, one she didn't know. Naturally, the rust-frosted female went towards it with her tail flagging and her ears presses forward. Little did she know that her dominant pose would mean nothing to the species she approached.

With a great earthen groan a segment of stone was pried up, and the beast directed his nose down beneath it. There were a few meager bugs - a worm which he hastily lipped and slurped up like spaghetti - but it would not be enough. A bear such as himself could not subsist on bugs alone. As he palmed the chunk of shale and watched it flatten back upon the earth, Mortar wondered about the others. He was first to wake, but surely not the only one? There had been no sign of any other ursine in the area, not for miles, and it worried him. Perhaps he had woken early.

With a grunt he began to move again. Though his pace was slow, his gait was sweeping; he crawled diligently onward between the cedars until a sound caught his attention, and the bear lifted his broad head, glancing around for the origin of the soft sounds. His tiny ears were not so advanced like the wolf. His reactions were not so quick, like the deer. Yet he did see her - a flash of reddish fur coasting along through the sparse forest - and the bear's nose sucked in a wet breath of air. Beady eyes sought to follow the wolf and then, burdened by his hunger, Mortar began to follow after them.

The ivory female halted suddenly as she caught sight of the bear, her lips curling back in a vicious snarl. Never before had she seen such a beast, not even in her travels.
"What in the hell-"
She spat her words towards the great furry thing, unsure if it could understand her or not. Mortar surely wasn't something she could fight and get away with, oh no. To even try promised bad injury, even death. The odds were not in the queens favor. But now what did she do? Turning her back wasn't an option, not now that he'd seen her. If she had to run, she would, but there was no point if it wasn't going to be aggressive. What happened now depended on the bear.

The large bear lumbered towards her, his hunger growing at the possibility of a meal. He let out a roar, and then his large frame began barreling towards her. He didn't really understand why she didn't run- normally they did. But, he didn't really care. If she stayed in one spot, that made it easier to sink his teeth into her body and feel the sweet metallic taste of her blood as it poured into his mouth.

His stomach growled. He needed a good meal, and this frightened wolf could provide it. She flashed her teeth at him, but it did nothing to deter the beast from his intended kill.

The bear started for her, and the queen held her stance until he began to speed up. Much as it burned her, there was no way in hell she could fight this battle. Without another thought, the white and ginger female turned tail and began to run towards the Golden Glade. Hoping it would leave her alone, her stormy eyes could not help but glance back every so often. This woman would not be a meal today, nope!

The wolf seemed to come to its senses and turned to run, much to the dismay of the hungry bear. He chuffed and growled his displeasure, and continued to chase after it.

But, he knew he could not waste his precious energy on a mostly-healthy wolf, so his speed staggered until he came to a stop. He swiped a paw at the ground in anger, sending soil flying. Next time, Wolf.

After going a few more paces after the bear stopped, the vain queen couldn't help but stop and grin back. With a snarl, she turned again and took off, tail and ears flagging her victory. She didn't look back as she circled back around the mountain and back home.
