Slowly did Szabala awaken, heaving an enormous yawn and shaking her head. It was early in the morning... too early, and the gray princess couldn't seem to fall back to sleep. She sniffled and glanced about. Mommy and Daddy were still sleeping... so were her siblings. She wobbled to her feet, tiptoeing out of the den. She may have thought she was going quietly, but in truth she was really making quite the ruckus with her ever consistent babbling and the click of her tiny claws against the cave floor.

She emerged from the enterance and looked up at the space above her. Even though her vocabulary had been growing drastically in the past few weeks, she still had no knowledge of the word sky, which was apparently used to reference what she was gazing at.

Everything was still under a dark blanket that was slowly growing brighter. However, it was dark enough to see the stars. Now, Szabala had never seen anything like a star, and the sight was absolutely marveling to her. Her little puppy blue eyes began to grow large and her mouth opened just a tiny bit. "Waaas  aahhtt?" She murmured quietly, eyes locked on the beautiful, sparkling, twinkling thing way up there.

Kieran had heard the click of nails on the ground and babbling noises and he woke with a start. He blinked looking around a soft growl in his throat until he realized it was one of his daughters. Standing up he followed behind her, and watched from a distance to make sure she didn't get far. He was pleasantly surprised when she simply sat right outside the den and stared up at the sky.

He chuckled quietly and settled behind her, one of his paws touching either side of her and he too looked up. He stared at the stars as they glimmered and shone. It made his heart quicken to see such beauty. To know that it was still there, despite the plague that had taken over their land. That there was beauty still ringing true for all. He looked back down at Szabala smiled and spoke. Well wee wan, 'tis de stars. ain't they bonny?

She was so engrosed in the beauty of the stars that she hadn't noticed Daddy following her. His two large paws landing on either side of her alerted her of his presence and she looked up at him with en enormous smile. "Daaaaddyyyy!" She squealed a little to loudly. She immediatly felt safer in his presence, even if she didn't have any worries in the first place.

He spoke to her quitely and softly. Stars. Ssstttaaarrrsss. "Sssaars," She said, repeating was he said as best she could. "Dey sars." She was very happy with her accomplishment of saying another word and returned her gaze to the stars twinkling above her. She wasn't aware of the tragedy the locusts brought her family and pack, but even the tiny little babe could appreciate their beauty.

Kieran felt his heart stutter and then swell at the sweet word that came from his daughter's lips. Daddy, it was beautiful to hear it. He smiled down at her and licked the top of her head, nuzzled the gentle downy fur between her ears. He chuckled to himself and then listened as she tried out other words on for size.

Kieran dipped his head and smiled. He nodded yes. Pure Gran' Sweetheart. He chuckled as she tried his own accent on for size and did a better interpretation than he would ahve done himself. Yer nu wee wan. if yer ever git lost, yer alwus root de biggest star, an' it 'ill lead yisser norn an' you'll be able ter fend yisser way.

Szabala caught the gist of what Kieran had told her, and gave him a swift nod, stubby tail wagging the whole time. It was very nice having Daddy Time, however early in the morning it was.

Suddenly, her tiny brain caught an idea. "Daddy," she said again, "dere woaf up dere?" She quipped. There had to be. In her little mind, everything was perfect, and if a wolf wanted to go up there, they could go on up there in a hop, skip and and bound. Same thing for coming back down, but little did she know, the world was much different than that.

Kieran settled down to his stomach curling around his daughter as they looked up at the sky. He searched for something to show her in the stars, but there were so many constellations he wasn't sure what he could point out.

Kieran looked down at her and he chuckled quietly. Well aye an' naw wee szabala. He frowned trying to think how to explain it. Thar's a picture av a wolf in de sky, but we canny go up dare. we don't fly. we ain't loike birds.

"Pitchure." She stated matter-of-factly, tasting the new word on her tongue. Just like that, her tiny brain had switched topics from the stars to this new word. "Whaas dat mean?"

Her ear eyes were wide as they returned to the stars, trying to find the picture of the wolf up there. She expected it to be in color, popping out of the sky for her to look at. However, "pictures in the sky" were different than that. Still, she searched and searched as hard as she could.

I'm so sorry my computer crashed and i Just got a new one this week. Would you like to finish this thread nad have an updated one? I am trying to get permission for his absence to be explained as he went on a hunt of some sort before Autumn.

Kieran frowned at thought unsure exactly how to answer her. He knew sort of what a picture was, but he wasn't positive how to explain it to her. He took a deep breath and spoke softly. Well 'tis an image in de sky or de groun' or whatever yer clap, but that's not really waaat so'tiz. 'tis jist de likeness av somethin'. sometimes yer might clap somethin' dat looks loike a wolf, but 'tis not it jist looks loike it ter yer.

Kieran chuckled to himself, that was an awful way of explaining to her. He shook his head and frowned again unsrue how to fix what he said without confusing her anymore. She was just a wee girl, and he was telling her big things. He wasn't sure if she would understand.

Kieran leaned forward and gently pushed on her head, trying to guide her eyes to where the wolf sat in the sky.
