Twix half runs, half gallops through the field once she’s out in the open. Her dark, beady eyes search each way as her head swings left and right, scanning the expanse of grass and the tree lines in the distance. The mountain up ahead doesn’t yet deter her as she moves, her breathing become ragged with worry. Eventually, she slows to a stop and hunkers down into the ground to smell the dirt, little fingers pilfering through as if she’d dropped something. She doesn’t linger long, however, as she picks herself up and covers the rest of the distance until her hands are touching stone.

Mars?” she whisper-shouts, peering around one corner into another field opening up before her, surrounded by stone on all sides but the entrance. “MARS!”

Her eyes widen and she stumbles back, putting all four limbs to the ground and take cover beneath a slight overhang. There’s enough to push herself into hiding for anyone that might not be looking for her, but the longer she goes without hearing from her brother, the more concerned she becomes. This game of hide and seek has certainly outlasted any of the others and the moon isn’t brought enough to offer any extra insight. While the stars are enough to illuminate for the nocturnal girl, Twix always struggles to find her brother.

A gust of water sputters in the distance and she picks herself up again, once again peering around the corner but she only sees a faint mist in the distance. She scratches the top of her head once as she begins to move into the geyser field, half pressed against the wall to keep herself masked in the face of danger. Would her brother really be dumb enough to enter a territory this his death written on his forehead? It isn’t the first time they’d traveled through a predator inhabited area but it is the first time alone and a slight tremor begins to make itself down through her spine.

“Mars?” she murmurs once she jerks, a sound in the distance causing her to freeze in place.

Mars was never much of a runner. He preferred to take up a slower pace in life, leaving Twix scout and explore while he held back. Though his sister’s motivations were almost aligned with his, there was a gaping different: food. Everything that the roly-poly creature did was driven by his stomach. But when the time came, there was another special talent that the coon could accomplish: hiding.

He often referred himself as the master of hide-and-seek. Though he wasn’t as much as a seeker, he was very much a hider. Perhaps it was his sheer mass that allowed him to blend in with shrubbery more or his motivation not to run. Whatever it was caused him to find all of the best hiding spots.

He did not waver as he was called for. As Twix has counted he has slid off ahead, throwing caution to the wind. Slipping into the field, that reeked of the settled wolves, he slipped into the shadows and curled up into a ball along the wall, not too far from where Twix called his name.

Irritation coursed through him as he layed in the shadows as he looked to her and before long he signed heavily. That wasn’t how this game worked! But, for now, he did not give any further indication of his location and watched on.

Night had settled over the land, which meant the time to sleep had arrived. At first, the boy had been dozing soundly, sprawled out across the floor of the den. His paws had twitched a few time, kicking at the empty air as he'd started an adventure within his dreamland. There was nothing to chase, nothing to lurch towards, but there had been the evil lady and his leaves. Just as he'd done numerous times before, he'd run forward to get around her—which had, unbeknownst to him at the time, sent his body forward outside of dreamland. The boy had pulled himself up and lunged forward, causing for him to crash right into one of his sisters. The impact had been enough to wake him up, causing for him to shake his head and blink a few times, waiting for his eyes to adjust and focus on the other body; he'd recognized it almost immediately as belonging to Freyja. Scurrying back a few steps, he'd stared at her before approaching again, nosing her in apology.

The idea of sleep had vanished from his mind entirely at that point, and so he'd swung his head towards the entrance before heading towards it, inviting his sister along at the last second because he felt bad for trying to squish her. A verbal apology would never come, so the least he could do was go adventuring with her for realsies to make up for it. Thus, Hvit had continued forward, walking aimlessly until he'd heard a noise, towards which his head had then turned with ears perked atop his crown. A glance over his shoulder in order to search for his sister had been made, but he'd hardly seen her before having swung his head back around and took off in the direction of the noise. Despite having been told to be quieter when moving days prior, he'd trudged along without much care for how great of a commotion he made, deciding that they'd gone far enough from the den for it to be a safe zone.

As the geyser field was crossed into, he'd slowed, looking around. Had one of his other sisters wandered out without him having taken notice? It was possible, but incorrect. Hvitserk continued forward until he'd seen a weird smudge—to be later known as Twix—against the darkness of a wall. It stuck out to him enough to draw him towards it, nose working to try and figure out who it was, but having been unable to recognize the smell. Looking to Freyja, he'd wondered if she knew what it was, which was clear given his expression of confusion.

Sleep had not come easily to Freyja. Instead of dozing off easily as her siblings had, the silver-furred child had tossed and turned in an attempt to invite the welcoming arms of sleep upon her. It was only as she laid helplessly on her side that sleep took mercy on her. She was taken softly into her dreams, exhaling softly as she settled in for the nap that was sure to last quite a while. From darkness came a dream and she landed onto the scene delicately. Deer littered the mist-swept fields of her dreams and as she gained awareness of her surroundings her instinct kicked in.

Deer! They were here!

Despite what she had been told about hunting these creatures her possibilities were endless within the realms of her dreams. Crouching into the tall grass, Freyja looked upon the herd cautiously. Even though she was limitless within this world, Freyja still practiced all that she had learned about hunting. Rocking on her haunches, Freyja readied herself to pounce at the nearest deer. But, unfortunately, such preparation would do her little good. Just as she was about to launch herself Frejya woke as something crashed into her.

Jerking awake, Freyja let out a yelp as she caught Hvitserk’s reversal. Her brows fell heavily upon her eyes and a growl passed her lips as she looked on sternly. It was only as Hvitserk apologized that such feelings melted away. Despite her anger she felt that she could not stay mad at her brother. After all, it he had apologized.

But despite his apologies this did not account for the fact that she didn’t get a proper nap. Remaining on her side, Freyja sighed helplessly. She was not optimistic that she would fall back asleep. Instead of trying, she watched on as her brother made his way to the den’s mouth. She was beckoned before he exited and she continued to watch as he slipped out. It did not take her long to push herself onto her paws and followed.

His path took them both to the geyser. She had followed on silently as her curiosity carried her further from any hopes of a nap.  Pausing next to her quietest sibling, Freyja caught sight on to what he had spotted. Lifting her tail, and momentarily locking eyes with Hvitserk, Frejya offered an expression of uncertainty. She wasn’t quite sure what it was, as it looked nothing like she had ever seen, but such facts did not hold her back. What are you?” she asked Twix bluntly, stepping towards the creature with a questioning expression.

She knows he’s here. His scent led her to this spot so she knows he heard her. She didn’t expect him to call back to her but she expected something. A rustle, a giggle, a sign that he is near. She narrows her eyes as she moves along the slab of rock, searching for a nook or cranny that just might be raccoon sized for her brother to fit. Twix opens her mouth once to say something again when she hears something off in the distance.

It’s not the same sound as a gush of water she heard early but heavy footfalls coming straight for her. She looks up just in time to see eight legs and two sets of eyes coming right for her. Having been so wrapped up in finding her brother to really pay attention, surely they’d be safe during this time of night, that she hadn’t been too focused on her surroundings. She leans back on to two legs and uses the stone wall behind her to support her upright, to make herself look a little bigger for the incoming canines.

The closer they got, however, they didn’t necessarily get any bigger. And the question she receives once they are close enough causes her to tremor once but craning forward in a sudden curiosity.

Young. Children!

Twix’s eyes widen. They don’t know what she is! The opportunities expand before her and she uses one hand in front of her, commanding them to stop. They don’t have to know she’s edible.

“I’m Twix!” she introduces instead and takes a step forward and spins her own version of their question. "Who are you?" Once her hand begins to tremble, she jerks it down and places it behind her, lowering down onto three limbs and hops forward. “I’m looking for my stupid brother, can you help me?” She softens her eyes as much as she can, hoping their ignorance will work in her favor and she won’t have to turn tail and run, leaving her brother behind.

Hearing his sister’s introduction, Mars peered curiously from his hiding spot and towards the group of gathered animals. It appeared that the the two larger predators meant harm to them… yet. Instead he listened on from his hiding spot as his victorious reign continued.

He was all the more eager to hold onto this title, that is, until his sister insulted him

He felt his jaw drop as he caught wind of what she had said. Without another thought, the hefty raccoon stormed from his hiding place and towards the trio, his fur spiked and his eyes wide with rage. “WHOS STUPID?!” He hissed, falling into place alongside his sister, his eyes burning.

There'd been a moment where his gaze had locked with his sister's, during which he'd witnessed her own uncertainty. She knew just as little as he did, a name for the strange animal seeming to not yet exist within either of their minds. It was, perhaps, somewhere within their vocabularies, but neither seemed to have ever seen the mammal or had it described well enough to put two and two together. The boy's legs grew stiff, ears staying upright as his eyes focused back on the raccoon. Was it going to hurt them? It seemed small, but maybe it could do a lot despite its size. Curious, he'd tried to sniff at it, wanting to further inspect the thing. He'd not stepped any closer, however, having chosen to keep back just in case it turned out to be unfriendly.

It was soon revealed that the thing went by Twix, but that hadn't explained what she was. Hvit's head tilted, but he'd said nothing. Maybe they'd be told about what she was later, and possibly even more. The thought had him straightening back out, not against the idea of learning about the strange creature. It hadn't been for much longer that he'd allowed for himself to stare at her, however, having been made to tear his eyes away in order to look towards Freyja. As always, it was expected that she'd speak for the both of them, and so he hadn't even made a move that might suggest he'd say something first for once. No, his sister had gotten him used to hearing her voice, and so he didn't often feel it necessary to use his own when she was around. If it was important, then he would, but he trusted her to handle introductions—she'd done them plenty of times before, after all.

As he'd waited to hear the sound of his sister's voice, Hvitserk had glanced back towards the stranger, listening closely. He'd learned that she had a brother, which piqued his interest a bit. So, whatever she was, they could have siblings. He'd remember that for later, just in case the information might ever be necessary. Presently, however, he'd given a nod to show that he'd help out. If he were to do so, then perhaps he might take a step closer to figuring out what Twix was. Yet, his plan had been destroyed as another of her kind came into the picture, hissing out words. Without thinking, the boy had lurched forward to try and pin the male raccoon down with his weight just as he had done with the rabbit. His attempt had not been made with the intention to cause harm, however, but to keep him from running off. Wouldn't want for Twix's brother to run away and hide again.

She held herself high, despite her lingering confusion, as she waited for the odd looking creature. She found that the longer that she examined this odd creature, the more differences she found between the sloth and herself. Most noticeably Freyja found that the standing creature’s paws were much different than her own. Keeping her attention briefly onto the raccoon’s hands Freyja examined them in awe. Her attention went back to the creature as a whole as she introduced herself.

Confusion turned quickly into displeasure as the creature introduced herself. “That’s not what I asked,” she commented flatly, her tail giving one irritable shake. As a request was made, Freyja sighed heavily and frowned. “And I won’t help you until I know what you are. And why you're on our pack's territory.” Her remark was made before she looked to her brother, hoping that he would stick with her in this stance. After all this creature was past their borders and could be a threat to their pack. She would not let anything of this matter happen on her watch, though.

Suddenly another one of these creatures stormed onto the scene, hissing with vigor towards Twix. Flattening her ears, Freyja looked to this new individual with annoyance written all over her face. Thankfully, Hvit was quick to pin him down. Lifting her tail, she stomped over to her brothers side and looked down at the rodent. “You shouldn’t be so mean,” she muttered dryly at him before turning her attention towards Twix again, voicing the obvious. “This is him, isn’t it?”

There is a lot going on in a short amount of time as the young wolves looked to one another and then the greyer spoke again with her list of demands before she helps. Her distraction doesn't work and she still wants to know what she is but Twix is far more concerned she'll hear the term and think prey. While the two in front of her are young, they are awful close and perhaps she can get away alive but certainly not unharmed

The girl swallows a lump in her throat as her other hand coming back up front to support her. Instead of leaning forward, she picks herself back up on two legs to better be perceived as equals, or perhaps superior, instead of anything resembling something they can try to eat. She opens her mouth to speak just as she hears a rustling coming from her left and a sudden angry, bristling raccoon with wide eyes and spit. She turns to greet him and laugh off his sudden anger, assuming him to be joking this whole time, but Twix doesn't have time to react when the fatter of the two puppies tries to smother her brother.

"GET OFF HIM!" she shrieks suddenly, rushing to her brother's side and puts both hands on whatever she can grab and works to try and pull him out. She doesn't consider the danger she puts herself into with the hysterics but she turns her head back to try and find the female child who seems to be the boss between the two. "We're... raccoons!" she says through a struggled breath that matches the tug on her brother, her efforts still working to try and free him. "We're here because we're playing hide-n-seek! We're not wolves so we're not trespassing!"

After a few more useless attempts, Twix falls back on her grump with her fingers still embedded into her brother's fur and sandwiched between the two wolves in order to protect him. She peers up at the girl with beady, pleading eyes in hopes she'll order Fatso to release him.

His rage had been temporary. Without much warning, Mars went from being enraged to being flattened to the ground. His heart raced as he looked from the tiny wolf who had pinned him and towards the not very nice wolf with bulging eyes. He wasn’t quite sure what to do in that moment so instead of attempting to escape he laid there, his heart slamming in his ribcage as he waited for whatever was to come from this.

While his sister had hoped to keep him on her side, it was already that Hvit had agreed to offer his help. A who wasn't the same as a what, but he'd hoped that the latter might be revealed if he'd assisted in the locating of Twix's brother. He'd looked to Freyja when she'd spoken, but he'd made no sound or gesture that might suggest he agreed with her. It was quickly that his attention had shifted to the fact that they hadn't been introduced, and so he'd let out a soft wuff to gain her attention. Without saying anything, he'd turned back to face the creature that had been squashed beneath him, tail waving behind him because he'd done something good! The boy had caught him, and so now he wouldn't be able to run away and hide again. He was certain that that was what the female had wanted, though her reaction suggested otherwise.

More words were exchanged, but he'd paid the most attention to the shriek. His ears had fallen flat against his skull whilst his tail ceased all movement, the fur along his back having bristled out of uncertainty. Hadn't he been good? The thing—which he'd learned was a raccoon—had attempted to pull at and free the one trapped beneath the boy's weight, but to no avail. Rather than getting up and releasing the male, he'd wiggled around on top of him, stretching his neck out so that he could try and poke Twix's hand with his nose. Your brother is fine, he'd wanted to tell her, I won't hurt him. All Hvitserk had wanted to do was help, but he'd definitely not gotten the reaction that he'd been expecting.

For a moment longer, he'd stared between the two raccoons, then looked towards his sister. Just as quickly as he'd lurched forward, the wolf had gotten back up, pulling his weight off of Mars before taking a few steps back. There was confusion written all over his face at that point, unable to understand what he'd done wrong.

Hvitserk’s successful pinning had lead to upset on Twix’s end, despite Freyja’s pride. In their time out hunting together Freyja has noticed that her brother was always much better at landing a pounce than she she was, Making a mental note of the consistency of this skill, as her eyes lingered upon him, she would ask him about the secret of his craft at a later time. It was as she confirmed this thought that Twix’s cries erupted and her attention was quick to shift. Wide eyes met the other’s panic and her attention panned from the pinned animal to the flustered one. Her fur priced uneasily and she felt an urge to brace herself in case the creature decided to attack.

Thankfully such preparation was not needed.

Instead an explanation was spilled into the conversation and Freyja unwrapped herself quickly from her defensive stance. “A Racoon?” she mimicked curiously, looking to the masked animal with a tilt of her head. The animal went on to explain just why they were past the borderline and to that she nodded, understanding the importance of this game. Now that it had been confirmed that this was not a wolf she felt much more at ease-- she knew that non-wolves could come and go as they pleased. In light of this she stepped to her brother’s side and nudged his cheek affectionately, in way of thanking him for his help.

“I see,” she replied, turning her attention back to the raccoon with a wave of her tail. “Sorry we ruined your game-- I know I don’t like when that happens,” she offered sincerely.

The boy puppy finally gets of her brother and she nearly hits the ground when her grip gives way. She stumbles back a time or two but when she's certain the puppies aren't going to pounce on them, she rushes back to Mars' side. Her hands touch him all over from his face to his shoulder and his ears and everything else. If the wolf had hurt her brother in anyway...!

"How do we get out of here?" she says, flustered by the sudden upset. She grips her own brother by the arm and begins to tug him the way she'd came to get back to confirmed safety.

The nudged received from his sister had done little to change his mood, but it had served as a nice distraction for the time being. Some other time, perhaps he would ask either her or an adult about what he might have done wrong, seeing as it was clear he’d upset the raccoon in some way. Or, maybe, he’d forget about it. It’d be just as easy to do that as it’d be to ask right then and there—in theory, that is—as his mind would continue to view what he’d done as a good thing. Hvit had been helping out, which was exactly what Twix had wanted. Telling himself this, his spirits were lifted back up, only to be slapped back down again the second he heard the creature’s question.

Hvit glanced between the two females, then settled on his sister and whined. Thereafter, he’d tossed his head back in the direction of the other siblings, checking to make sure that they were still there. Were they really going to leave? Didn’t they want to play some more?

Though she felt bad that the odd-looking creatures, she felt that they had both done what had been needed to ensure that their home was safe. Her gaze jumped from the raccoons as Twix asked them how they could get out. “You just go back where you came from,” she answered in a matter-of-fact tone, her lips falling into a straight line upon her muzzle. “You know, like right behind you,” she added a jerk of her head for clarity.

Her attention turned when Hvitserk whined and as she heard this she turned quickly towards him. “It’ll be okay,” she said as she reached forward to nudge his cheek.

My last post!

Mars opens his mouth to speak once Freyja answers their questions, but Twix quickly reaches over and snatched his nose into her hand. A hard stare shows now not to be the time and she uses her other hand to wave, then grip him by the shoulder to usher them back the way they'd came. It isn't until she is outside the geyser field and several yards down the other side of stone that she gives him a shove and starts yelling at him for his shenanigans.

Directions on how they might leave had been given, which disappointed the boy greatly. He’d wanted to learn more about the funny-looking creatures, as well as play with them, but it seemed as if he might not be able to do either. All he’d been able to do was watch as they left, but never had he stepped forward in order to follow. He’d lingered there at his sisters side, looking towards her only after she’d nudged him. The fact that she’d told the raccoons how they could escape wasn’t held against her, as he was aware that she’d only been helping them out. Thus he’d leaned into her, refusing, now, to look back in the direction that their newly made friends had gone in.

For the rest of the time spent together, Hvit would remain just as quiet as usual. He’d neither spoken nor moved for the first few moments, the latter streak meant to be broken only after Freyja did so first. Wherever she might go next, he would follow, though his mind was sure to drift back to the black and grey animals periodically all throughout the rest of their day.
