All Welcome
@Clary, but Val and any of the others are welcome! Papa Zeke is here with snacks!

Ezekiel was visiting the pups much more frequently now. He often came bearing little gifts, today he came with a fat groundhog in tow. It’d been out collecting food and getting fat for winter, and Zeke had caught it in the act. He was having a good day today, in fact any day was good in which he got to see his kids. He was still trying his best to win over Steph and Ezra, but Clary was a good start. He was particularly fond of her, and she seemed fond of him too.

He stopped outside Valette’s den and dropped the groundhog at his feet. He then let out a bark, Hey guys! I got you something! His tail wagged contently behind him, a warm look in his sky blue eyes.

Steph's stubborness was starting to show. Or maybe it was loyalty, who knows. But since meeting the man everyone wanted her to accept as Papa, she had been vehemently refusing him. Why did it seem he just popped up one day and now wouldn't go away? He kept bringing things, she kept refusing them. She didn't bother sniffing or showing any interest in what he brought, nor she she greet him as she normally would any other wolf that visited the den site.

Today was no different. His bark and voice alerted her to his presence. She wasn't annoyed, or angry, but nor was she happy to see him here. Still, she got up and exited the den. She glanced at him, but did not offer a greeting, even in the form of a smile. Instead, she side-stepped away and went to sit next to a log a few yards away. She knew Clary liked this wolf, and Steph didn't mind that. She wouldn't try to steer her sister away from calling Zeke dad. But, Steph's heart and loyalty was to the male who seemed to be there from day one, who saved her from being ripped apart by a wolverine, who gave her the first taste of a mouse. That loyalty would not fade overnight, if ever.

Going down to ber belly, she watched Zeke openly, as she did many things in this world. Others in her situation might have just ignored him, but Steph had too much of a curious mind. Still, interacting with him was a no-go at the moment.

As Clary grew, there were more and more things she understood about the world. She understood the days got colder, but would eventually get warm again (or so the adults told her). She knew that when the sun ran away to the East, it would rise again in the West. She could count on all her toes, and name every colour of the rainbow. She knew she had a mama, and she knew she had a papa, now, too.

The pale girl stretched in the lazy air of the den, as the summons of a now familiar voice came to rest on her ears. But her sister roused first, and a spring of hope leapt through her chest at Steph's sudden departure, and Clary - quickly awake - surfaced from the den shortly after. Her murky eyes lit up when she caught sight of the steel man, but a glance around, and she couldn't see Steph - until she caught her sister's retreat to a far and opposite direction, and Clary felt her heart drop beneath the smile on her face.

Clary understood a lot about the world, but she couldn't understand why Steph wouldn't give Ezekiel a chance to even be her friend. She knew Steph's affection for the kind man Murdock, and she didn't mind if her sister saw him as dad instead. Things between them seemed good, and she'd watched how her sister took to him, and how he took to her with like happiness - and that was all she wanted. Happiness. But for everyone. And anyone who didn't work for that... Clary glanced at her sister, uncertainty in her pause. Anyone who didn't work for that, she didn't understand.

But she liked Ezekiel, and she liked how much he visited. Even more, she liked how much he payed attention to her. Something she had never experienced from anyone but mama before. If he was papa, she had no one to compare. So Clary bounced over, but with less of a spring than usual.

"Hiya Eezee!"  she chirped and sniffed around the furry lump at his paws. Warm, and enticing. Her tail thumped against the ground. "It's so... big!" Clary inclined her head to stare up at his face with wide-eyed wonder, and met a gaze blue as the sky. Happy, and dancing. She had eyes like his, too, she remembered - though she didn't yet realize her blues had long started their shift to a hazel much like her ma's. "Where'd you find it?"

Ezekiel got a little bit excited when Steph exited the den, he hoped maybe today would be the day when he would get to actually interact with his other daughter. She looked so much like Val, and even her stubbornness reminded him a bit of her mother. However as soon as she exited the den she swerved to the side and went to sit on a log, watching him. Damn it. He thought, realizing today wasn’t going to be the day after all. He nodded to her, accepting where she stood and turned his head when he heard another voice.

His tail went off on a rampage when he saw little Clary. He really loved her so. He watched as she sniffed at the ground hog that he had brought, and sat on the ground in front of him. He laid down so that he could be on her level, staring her in her eyes. They were beginning to shift from light blue to hazel. She was a true mixture of Zeke and Val physically, she had his grey fur and markings, and Valette’s warm green eyes. Personality wise, Clary was her own thang.

The big grey male rolled over onto his back, holding his paws to his chest and looking at Clary upside down. She asked him where he found it, and still upside down he replied, In a field, it was eating a bunch of food for winter and I grabbed it. Cool huh? When he was around his kids, or close friends, he was a pretty playful wolf. He had been like this with Val once, but those times hadn’t quite returned yet. He hoped they would, because he missed hanging out with her all the time.

Ezekiel nodded to her, but made no point in coming her way, for which Steph was glad. Clary exited the den, and Steph's expression softened towards her sister, and her tail gave a brief wag while the sisters locked eyes. For as different as they saw the male before them, Steph had no qualms with Clary.

As the pair started conversing, Steph laid her head on her paws, and her eyes slowly closed. She didn't sleep, however, and kept her ears alert enough to listen to Ezekiel and Clary, and for any others who might approach.

Feel free to skip me from here on out!

Clary giggled and found her head tipped almost instinctively when Eezee rolled onto his back. The motion carried her off balance and she sunk against the ground, rump in the air and cheek pressed against the frosty earth in hopes of seeing her father right-side up. Her tactic didn't work so well, but her face lit up with the widest eyes when he explained where he'd found the groundhog, and her mouth parted in silent awe before she found her voice.

"Cool!" She didn't really know if what he told her was actually all that cool, but the fact that he thought so was enough for her to let herself believe it was. Clary aimed a playful paw at the air in front of Eezee's face, before she sprung from her convoluted twist on the ground and lowered her torso with an eager thump of her forelegs against the ground. "Can you take me? Can we find more?" She really didn't really think she could eat more than one groundhog, but the activity would mean spending time her a new friend - er, father. Her smile stretched wide and she swung a backwards glance to Steph, in hopes to catch her eye and wordlessly extend the invitation to come along to her (she knew how much her sister loved exploring). But Steph had her eyes closed, and after a moment's pause, Clary turned back to her father, her posture still bright, but her eyes a little dimmer than before.
