Marigold sat silently at the edge of the frozen water, shivering in the cold. The young one wondered just how long she could last in such weather. Maybe...maybe this had all been a huge mistake. She should have never left, never run from her safe-space. Captivity, though boring at times, could have been good for her...or so she wanted badly to believe.
The border collie yipped as she hearded the sheep, veering this way and that while nipping at their ankles. Legs panted heavily as she ran, trying hard to get them to run the right direction, back to her master. It was then that out of the corner of her eye, a long, smooth figure slid through the grass. The dog immediately tore from her herding, allowing the sheep to roam. Through the angry shouts of the old man, Marigold barked ferociously at the snake, not allowing it out of her sight. That was, until she felt a blunt wack at the back of her head and turned around with the yelp. It was in fact her master, his branched grippers reaching out towards her scruff. However, Marigold would not have it this time. She had done nothing but alert him to a menace! The canine snapped her jaws shut on those branches, and a warm, metallic liquid flooded her mouth. She pulled away as the man screamed, darting off in the opposite direction. She was leaving...for good.
