All Welcome
her return to the wilds, this time, was not as graceful as before. though she tried to stay and reform, back to the girl constantine used to know, back to her old self. but she could not do it, and her frustrations ailed her. so she fled, something she'd become very good at, only to find more nothing.

this time, however, she returned with something new-- memories. not all of them, of course, and not all were so crystal clear. they were not all happy, either. aria remembered in great detail a secret affair she had with a graying man, taltos. constantine had mentioned of her possible relationship to casmir, but nothing of the boy resurfaced but fights and arguments. she remembered a girl named deirdre, who's relationship with her made her feel happy, angry, and upset. she could not fully piece together why, as some of the memories still refused to return. but deirdre was her apprentice, of sorts-- at least, that's what aria had decided must've been the case. a woman named pearl, aria remembered-- though that was as much of her as she could gather. aria remembered moonspear, barely, mostly remembering how sad she was there. and floki... though constantine insisted she might've had something with her, all aria remembered of him was his name.

her own age was still uncertain-- how much time had she forgotten? would she ever gain it back?

even though the pale january woman hoped that she would remember all these details of her past life and that she would grow to be her old self, and that everything would make sense. but that wasn't reality, go figure. instead, it only confused her more-- an identity crisis she certainly never asked for. she was torn between all of the tragedy her past life had seen and the joyously optimistic and self-assured wolf she was before that. they fought, constantly, breaking down poor aria until she was left but no choice to return. she didn't think she'd find any answers-- she hadn't the first time, why would that change? but she hoped it would put part of her anxieties at ease. perhaps this would help-- she had no other options.

so aria wandered slowly, lowly, through the meadow. it wasn't familiar in any way, no sense of deja vu irking her. so she didn't linger, eyes open and ears pricked. body language uncertain.

Atomsk moved at a steady clip, trying to outpace a gentle storm looming far on the horizon. He was aware of the dull ache in his stomach that forewarned him to eat soon before his mood became affected, but he concentrated now on finding better shelter than this meadow currently provided. There were woods in the distance ahead of him -- an ideal place to both hunt and rest -- but he was distracted by a moving slip of white to the east of him, and he turned his head to observe the tangible wolf that materialized in place of a ghost.

He perked up, watching with mild interest as she seemed to mill about uncertainly. A wolfish sense of curiosity got the better of him, causing the large wolf to change trajectories and approach her at a slow drag of a walk; trying subtly not to appear threatening in his manners. He kept his head low and his tail waving at a pace somewhere between good-natured and neutral, and he made a noise to capture her attention if he didn't have it already.

aria heard the male a short distance back-- heard, scented, saw-- but she chose to ignore him. they were on their own separate journeys, there was no need to intertwine them. of course, aria was not by any means unfriendly, it was just that today in particular she had something on her mind. today? phew, it was more like every day. but, truthfully, today specifically.

but he chuffed, taking a hold of her attention. aria was too polite to ignore him now, and so she slowed her gait and turned her head towards him, ears angled forwards. her tail was still, her posture about as neutral as you could get it. she stared, quiet still, waiting for him to say something. after all, he called to her, he must've wanted something. her walking came to a complete stop, and so hee had her full, undivided attention.

He took her indifference at first as ignorance -- she hadn't noticed him, so therefore needed to be hailed -- but after garnering her attention, he realized by the lack of enthusiasm in her turn and the dull and numb expression on her face, that she had been aware of him and simply hadn't the mind for his company. Atomsk regretted showing his loneliness, even to an admirable she-wolf,  but it didn't stop him from addressing her as he had intended.

Hanging back several wolflengths, he bobbed his head. "You looked like you were searching for something. I came to see if there was anything I could do." It was a boring life as a loner, after all. Without the option to provide for others, the stalwart Atomsk was left seriously wanting.

aria had never sought solidarity. in her time alone, though some of her memories returned, she drove herself mad. she longed for companionship, to be loved. as her memories resurfaced all it reminded her of was how lonely she was. she missed taltos and casmir, men she had remembered loving, and she missed constantine and komodo, men that she had she knew she loved-- even if only platonically.

so why, right now, was she being so standoffish? perhaps her loneliness, her confusion, was driving her to find constantine now. anything else was merely a distraction, a road block, and she had no time for delay. perhaps if the stranger were closer, he might not've confused her emotional exhaustion with the belief that she didn't want company.

could she have read minds, aria would've felt terrible that she'd made him regret being vulnerable to her.

but, again, aria was not unfriendly, and though she desperately wished to find constantine or... someone she recognized, she was lonely. and this was company.

she shook her head. "no, not really," she said softly, sweetly, offering the male a small smile. someone, but many someones, and not one was better than the other. aria just wanted a piece of her life back, something tangible, instead of these dreadful, mangled, fractions of memories. she didn't want to go through the bases, either-- explaining why she needed to find these wolves was just too tiresome. she moved on. "my name is aria january," she told him, taking a small step in his direction. but when there was nothing he could help her with, he merely nodded and parted ways. oh well, thought aria, not really in the mood to open up to a stranger right now any how.
