the eye which had been injured remained half-lidded with only some of the healing sclera present. each wound had scabs running its length; moving was difficult without breaking the newly formed skin, so famine had been forced to sleep through most of his recovery. awareness came sporadically. most of the time, famine was nearly unresponsive, stuck lingering somewhere within his dreams.
this morning, however, goliath awoke with a confused call for his mother. another went for his father, whoever might have been tempted to take that title. famine didn't realize that his vision had become impaired; he was young, and so it was easy for his mind to correct what had been lost. he waited for someone to respond while lowering his head back onto the ground.
