ooc: for Styx! :)

Crème deliberately set each paw down one at a time; she had heard snaps of twigs in the dark of the night and had run off without another thought. At the moment, she carefully walked while a thick fog rolled through the forest as the sun rose. Tiredness tore at her body, and the angry pang of hunger now seemed familiar. She whimpered as the thick blanket pulled over her. It was bad enough that she was scared out of her wits, but now she couldn't see at all. The cream colored wolf hid herself into a nearby bush and wrapped her tail around the shaking ball-shaped form she now was.

The restless hybrid had been patrolling the forest long before the sun began its climb from the horizon line. A fog had swept through the trees, making itself home and cloaking the ground in a fine mist. It swirled around his legs and torso which each step he took, causing a continuous chill to run down his spine as the crisp fall air surrounded him. Winter would be arriving soon — food was going to become scarce and the Captain would have to do everything necessary to protect the members of his pack.

Initially it had been hunger that lured the long-legged hybrid from his den, but the silence that had settled in the forest was comforting. It had not taken him long to catch a rabbit, which he had intended to bring back for him and Katrina to share. Styx had been on his way back to the dens, the limp rabbit swaying from his maw, when a scent caught his attention. There was no call that accompanied it, which was what usually happened when were wolves were at his borders. Perplexed by the young stranger, the Captain changed his direction, bright eyes narrowed as he cut through the fog.

Once he closed the distance between himself and the strange scent he realized how young the wolf was — which was alarming, since there were no other scents surrounding her. Picking up his pace, it didn't take the mutt long to find the small ball of fluff — she had tucked herself away in a bush, tail wrapped her body almost as if she was willing herself to disappear. With a frown creasing his lips the coywolf lowered himself to the ground and nosed the still-warm rabbit closer to the young pup. "Eat some of this."

Crème skittered out of the bush she had recently occupied; she hadn't heard the humongous black wolf she now saw through the mist. The pup had backed herself into a nearby tree and whimpered once more, fear dominating any other emotion in her butterscotch eyes.

When she began to feel her other senses, she realized that he had... offered her food? Her eyes shifted down to the form of the dead critter and back to the male. She now caught the scent of the animal and her stomach yanked around as her mouth began to salivate.

Crème looked into the male's sea foam-colored eyes as she slowly inched forward toward the varmint, with her tail stuffed between her legs. When she was a few inches from the rabbit, she pounced and then struggled tearing pieces away to eat. Being so small and weak was never a positive, especially while trying to consume food.

Bright, seafoam eyes remained focused on the pale ball of fluff as she reacted to his greeting. He did not speak again; instead, he flattened himself against the ground as he waited for her to calm down. While he was curious about the whereabouts of hers parents he did not comment on it – there would be another time for that, as the Captain did not want to frighten the youth away. As she bounced at his offering the boy pressed his chin against the ground as his large, pointed ears feel back against the back of his skull. As much as he wanted to help her pick off the pieces of meat for her to consume, the yearling remained where he was. He was worried that if he moved – even the slightest – it would startle the nameless pup and she would disappear into the misty forest.

She watched the male with her dark honey eyes as she slowly ate, piece by piece. When she finished, blood covered her cream-colored body--face, paws, chest, and underbelly. Crème flattened her ears in embarrassment as the mess she created, and the fact that she had taken the midnight wolf's food.

Assuming the same position as he (directly in front of him), Crème opened her mouth to push out a soft "thank you" and then shyly hid her face under her paws.
