Sequoia Coast the seasalt brothers

Dori couldn't imagine a life without the ocean. He didn't begrudge its theft of his home, nor bemoan the relentlessness with which it persued a goal. If the ocean had its eye on you, it would win - eventually, by hook or by crook. Eldoris liked to think he took after his nefarious companion.

The twins - Lethe never strayed far, and Dori was secretly glad - had taken shelter on the coast, huddling at the base of a curved, weather-beaten rock near the top of the beach, where sand yielded to grass. The coastal woods did not appeal. Instead, Dori tasked himself with digging a shallow bed for the brothers whilst Lethe was dispatched to kill something tasty. He hesitated, but disappeared in the direction of Ravensblood Forest after Dori repeatedly told him to 'man up'. Even so, the eyes of the twin left behind followed his brother's progress until the sinking darkness made it impossible to see him. The day was ending, but the sunset was cold and grey save for a faded glimmer of orange in the distance.

Dori returned to the task at hand, scratching through roots and dirt until the hole was big enough for two. He curled up in the middle to wait.

Um, I am assuming Mary is OK with me taking Lethe since she said so in that thread. If not, she can cut me off, lulz. <__<

It was always so hard to leave Eldoris behind. To anybody on the outside, it would seem as though Lethe was the harder brother, but when it came to the two of them, Lethe was the softer of the twins. He pined for his brother day and night, never wishing to leave his side for any more than five minutes at a time. Even when there were things that needed to be done—such as hunting—Lethe would have preferred that his twin go with him. They always worked better as a pair, or so he thought.

Whining softly as he broke away from Eldoris, Lethe ventured out to find them something to eat. The pickings were slim this time of year, though he managed to track down a half-eaten rabbit. It was not much, but it was the only thing he had come across in the past hour, so it would have to do. He could tell Eldoris that he'd already eaten his half, allowing the more outgoing brother to eat all that he had found.

As he approached where they had last parted, Lethe panicked, unable to see his brother in the dark. Frantically, he began pacing around the area until he finally realized Eldoris had been there all along, curled up in a makeshift den. Whining softly, he nudged his brother, still holding the half-eaten rabbit carcass.

Lethe took his time. Dori kept one blue eye open and uncovered, peering into the darkness that had swallowed his twin. Eldoris was less obvious about his affections for his brother, disguising it with banter and sometimes even aloofness - but despite all that, he rarely strayed far. The connection irritated him sometimes. He felt tethered.

A high, panicked whine interrupted his thought process. "Calm down--" He began to unfurl, catching sight of the carcass in Lethe's mouth. "That.. did you find that? "

These two are going to be fun! I was also thinking it would be hilarious if Lasher was into twins. <__<

Lethe dropped the less-than-fresh kill onto his brother so that he could speak. “It’s your half,” he replied, a smile stretching his lips from one corner of his mouth to the other. Lethe could always find something later, he imagined, and his twin's well-being was always put above his own (and everybody else's, for that matter). He did not intend to tell Dori that he'd found it like that, nor that he hadn't eaten anything. Even though his brother would likely know, considering they practically read each other's minds these days. Either way, it was Dori's, and Lethe would not accept no for an answer.

Stepping back a pace (as much as it pained him to move away even that much), Lethe allowed his twin some space to eat his meal as he cleaned his own front legs.

Lethe smiled adoringly at his reflection, insisting that he had already eaten his half. Dori eyed him suspiciously, but accepted the gift without vocalising a complaint - they would hunt together in the morning.

Whilst Dori ate, the wind picked up. It seemed the storm had followed them from the ruins of Karthas. He raised his head from the food, drawing exaggerated breaths of salty air into flared nostrils. "Lethe.." The voice was a worried one. "Should we.. move up into the forest? I don't want to get crushed by a tree after all that.. "

The wind was beginning to howl, and it tousled the twins' fur, even here in their little nook. Just as Lethe opened his mouth to suggest that they make camp elsewhere, Dori said as much, and it made the blue-eyed boy smile. “You read my mind,” he replied, licking Dori's muzzle. It was a shame that the pit Eldoris had dug would not be able to be used, but they could find another elsewhere, or simply use the trees for shelter. Glancing back to his brother, Lethe began to make the trip inland to the forest.

It was with tiny steps, but determined stride that Thistle cloud left the safe haven of her own borders and went in search of something for her husband. She was running out of aloe and a few other things and she needed them, with his eye socket being open and fleshy she wanted to make sure she kept aloe on it throughout the winter. She didn't know if it would really need it, but better to be safe than sorry.

She sniffed here and there, hoping that she could find even just a little bit, but if not it was okay. She supposed she had enough to last a few more days, perhaps even weeks if she was scarce with it. It was as she walked that sh ehappened upon two wolves and she froze. A little nervous but she chuffed in greeting regardless wiling them to notice her, and have no ill intent. It was like looking at doubles.

"You read my mind."

Dori grinned at his twin, accepted the brotherly smooch (is that a thing?), and got to his feet to follow. He was at his brother's flank within moments, and striding alongside him a second after that. They moved forward like an eight-legged beast, their gaits perfectly synchronized.

Just as they stepped into the shade of the first tree, a scent brushed past Dori's nose. He slowed down, looking across his brother's shoulders into the face of a stranger. "Lethe," he said, loud enough for the foraging medicine woman to hear. "We've got company. A lady."

They didn't make it far before somebody else arrived. "A lady," as Dori put it. Lethe cast her a glance, and then returned his attention to Eldoris, wondering if his twin planned on doing anything about this new development. Lethe was the least-social of all his siblings, at least when it came to outsiders, and he was not going to strike up a conversation with somebody just for the hell of it. That was most certainly Dori's task, and Lethe nudged his sibling, hoping to gain some comfort from the gesture.

Thistle froze for a moment a little bit afraid. Surely the did not mean her any harm. Hopefully they were only being kind by calling her a lady. She dipped her muzzle and looked at them Hello? SHe did not offer her name unsure whether or not they would be friendly or not. She did not wish to cause a conflict so near her home.
