One week in, Bazi was ready to leave her body behind and exit the world of the living.

Every morning, she woke up feeling either sick, angry, exhausted, or all three at once. Without fail, she inhaled six times the normal amount of breakfast despite knowing that she would be greeting its half-digested future self within the hour, all while trying not to pee herself. And man alive, the peeing. Even without a brood of pups pressing on her bladder, it was relentless - and it smelled. So as not to offend the rest of the pack, Bazi had to retreat into the mountains to relieve herself, matching the speed and volume of the Bitcurrent even when she hadn't ingested water in over eight hours.

Today, she lay sprawled in the middle of the forest, muzzle hanging over the river's edge. It purled pleasantly next to her lolling tongue, its sun-dappled beauty standing in stark contrast to the bitter taste in Bazi's mouth. Pregnancy was awful, she decided, staring at the opposite bank whilst she waited for the next wave of nausea to hit. And Scimitar's weiner was the devil.

Keiran had not been, very visible in the new home. Mostly, it was because he was hunting to make new caches, or urinating on the borders, hoping to make them that much more strong. He would not be lax in his duties, especially since he was fairly certain. There would be, or there already were babes on the way. He didn't know about Scimitar and Bazi in that way, and he didn't want to know. He was just glad, they had worked these things out.

He was carrying a brace of birds, when he caught her smell on the air. Not realizing that she was pregnant, he trotted into the clearing, with the birds in his maw. He placed them down near his paws, and chuffed gently at her. She looked Ill as all get out, and he wondered if he should back up, and leave her to herself.

'owaya miss. bazi. Yer luk loike yer don't fale pure well.

Bazi's head wobbled uncertainly as she raised it. She squinted at him, and slowly reclaimed enough control over her own body to sit up on her elbows. "I've never felt so awful," she grumbled weakly, sucking a potent mixture of snot and vomit into the back of her throat. It burned her nose and throat, threatening to trigger a second round of heaving. Bazi shut her eyes tightly and waited - one, two, three. The urge retreated. "Nobody told me it was going to be like this. And you can't even see anything yet." The Alpha turned to look at her flat, trim sides, then suddenly up at Kieran again with wide, fearful eyes. "Do you.. do you think I'll become ridiculously enormous? Scimitar's bigger than me, I bet I'll be enormous."

Kieran studied her as she moved about, and her words caused him pause. She was sick, so she hadn't just looked sick. She was sick, he frowned in thought. Unsure what to do now, but he listened to her politely. He wanted to wrinkle his nose, at the way she sucked back the snot. He could hear it, when she sniffed. However, he kept his wrinkling to himself.

It took a few moments for him to fully realize, what she was saying. Then he barked happily, and wagged his tail. Dipping down into a bow and then back up.

Dare is gonna be wee ones. Dat's deadly bars!

He chuckled at words and nudged her gently. He looked down at her, and smiled for once a merry sparkle came in his eyes. Though it was soon gone, but it had been there. Ah, Miss. Bazi, al' birds git lorge, whaen dey are wi' wane. Dare is naw ' arm in dat, dey usually go back to ter their slim selves in naw time. Ginger 'ill 'elp wi' yisser sickness, if yer can fend sum.

It hadn't occurred to Bazi that an official announcement was in order. She presumed the pack would just 'know', but how could they? She kept the worst of her vomiting private, and beyond that it was standard behaviour for wolves to eat plant matter and throw it back up again as part of maintaining a healthy digestive system. Thinking about it, she could not recall making a big deal of her pregnancy to anyone except Scimitar, to whom she attributed the sole blame for her condition. That bastard.

"Well..yes!" she croaked, wagging her tail in time with Kieran. His joy at the news filled her with pride, and the very briefest of senses that yes, it would all be worth it in the end. Bazi manoeuvred into a sitting position, legs shaking awkwardly under her slight form. If anything, she had lost weight. "Won't I be all droopy?" she enquired, fixing him in a stare that was cut short by realization and a swift shake of her head. "Urgh, no, why would you know - unless you were a midwife in your past life, right?" Bazi rolled her eyes and barked a laugh. "What's ginger?"

Kieran had, had no idea that there were babes so soon. He had known that there maybe, but now it was official. And yea he supposed his reaction, had been, perhaps a bit over the top. But well puppies, he shook his head, who didn't love puppies?

Kieran smiled again, his tail still wagging. He pushed the food forward, she could have these, when her stomach settled. Kieran chuckled, despite the fact that he hadn't been a midwife. He knew a thing or two, about a thing or two, about pregnancy. This wasn't his first rodeo, compared to the other wolves of the pack, he was actually a rather old man.

Yer won't be al' droopy miss. bazi. Yisser belly 'ill sag aye, an' yisser feminine area's 'ill be sensitive an' other such things. But yer won't sag after they are born, as long as yer becum active again. Yisser tummy 'ill go roi back ter its lean size. Ginger is a root, it 'elps ter calm yisser belly. dis isn't de first time, oi 'ave been raun a up de spoyt female, girly."

Granted yes, it was mostly is mother, and his sister that he was drawing upon. And Kiva in the first few weeks, but that was still more than enough knowledge. He had grown up, knowing about it. The first thing his father taught him, was the the consequences of bedding a woman while she was in heat.

Bazi struggled her way through Kieran's lengthy reply. His voice had soothing sing-song quality to it, but damned if she knew what he was saying. Feminine areas stood out, and Bazi averted her eyes briefly in embarrassment. The feminine areas in question were already sensitive, but she supposed he meant after the birth - and that certainly wouldn't be the kind of sensitive that had driven her into Scimitar's waiting embrace over and over again. She imagined the havoc the pups would wreak upon exiting and grimaced at the thought. If Bazi ever wanted a second litter, she would need to hope and pray that the first weren't bohemoths. No self-respecting man would give that kind of mess a second look.

"Well what were those pregnancies like, then?" she asked, ears perking up with interest. "Were they sick all the time? Did you.. see the birth?"

Kieran imagined that his accent, made it particularly difficult for anyone to understand him. But he did his best, it would be so much easier, if they all just spoke his language. Then there would be no issues, but well that wasn't going to happen. Although, Kaskara was starting to learn his language pretty well.

Kieran had meant during and after the birth. There was a need, his mother had told him, during pregnancy. Everything, was swollen and tight. He swallowed then, realizing he missed his mom and her blatant way of putting things. She did not beat around the bush, she was brazen and brash. And sometimes even crude, but he had loved her. Only as a son can.

Kieran frowned, she wanted to know details. Those he could give her, but not without giving some of it away. He should not have let his excitement, get the better of him. It was a fine mess he was in now.

Naw, oi did not clap de births. It depends on de lady, Bazi. Sum are boke de whole time, sum are boke only for a while, sum are not boke at al'. An each pregnancy is different.

Bazi exhaled her frustrations. "I know you're probably right, but that is the least satisfying answer ever," she told him, but tacked on a smile to emphasise that the uniqueness and unpredictability of a woman's pregnancy was, of course, not his fault. "It will be worth it when they're here. Have you sooner any scouting? Anything I should be worried about?"

He gave her a cheeky grin, at her sigh of frustration. He knew she wasn't happy, and though he felt for her, he wouldn't trade her places. He could be a father, a man, but he couldn't even imagine being a woman. And frankly, he didn't think he'd want too, they didn't have it easy. He shrugged tight shoulders and dipped his muzzle to her.

He nodded yes he'd been scouting, and no he hadn't seen anything, but he'd been filling caches more than scouting to be honest. Oi did a wee scoutin', nathin' ter worry aboyt dare. Oi 'av been fillin' de caches as well. Or startin' new ones.

He sat down, and curled his tail around his paws. Happy to pass some time, with her. After all, before too long, she'd be den bound.

Nothing to worry about. Good. Right? Bazi found herself bouncing between bliss, fear for the future... and the sinking feeling that some part of her life was over. She was to be a mother now, and the time for scouting and adventure was over. She had a mate - a strong, wonderful man.. and yet, this new physical self that had emerged from the child's body that had incubated it was still hungry for something. "Sometimes I don't know if this was a good idea," she whispered past Kieran's shoulder, changing the subject again.

Kieran watched as emotions played across her face. What they were, and what they meant he hadn't the slightest clue. He was not a very emotional being, not because he was cold or unfeeling, mostly just because he enjoyed simple things. He had thought it over, before. How he would feel, if they had been his pups. If Kiva and He had started the family, they both wanted. He had never gotten an answer, he wasn't sure if he would be happy and sad, or just happy, or even something different. And he would probably never get the chance to know, so why worry about it. However, he could certainly ease her fears a little bit, that was if she had some.

Why don't yer tink so 'tiz a gran' idea?

He lay down, his much larger body, so he didn't seem so imposing. Also, that she could lay down too, if it were more comfortable for her. He would not want to cause her any discomfort, especially so early in her pregnancy. When it was so easy to lose, such precious cargo.

Why don't yer tink so 'tiz a gran' idea? he asked. Bazi's gaze filtered back to meet his. His warm, green, friendly eyes. For a moment, she considered talking without restraint - allowing those nagging demons a chance to belch their ridiculous ideas into the free air and suffocate under the spades of common sense that Kieran would no doubt deliver in return. But she didn't. A fresh wave of nausea rocked her, and Bazi barely had a chance to reply "Breakfast-" before emptying herself noisily of bile next to Kieran's oustretched limbs.

Her eyes met his own, and Kieran quickly averted his own. He did not wish to cause irritation or challenge. Especially, not to the petite lass that stood before him. Kieran didn't even flinch as she emptied her stomach contents next to him. How many times had his sister, or his mother or countless others emptied their selves next to him. Not much stirred the male, but he did feel bad for her. He stood, and swiftly buried the sick, and then looked her over.

Cum along Miss Bazi. 'Oy aboyt we git yer cleaned up? Git yer sum water? Dat alwus seemed ter 'elp me ma. You'll 'av ter sip it though, otherwise yer 'ill be repeatin' again.

He stood calmly, gentle brush swaying in the air. He would help her if he needed too, though knowing her. She would be stubborn enough to walk on her own.

Bazi let him help her, looking on with forlorn eyes as Kieran tided away her mess and offered to help her clean up. She nodded dumbly, too exhausted to argue, and pressed her head against his dark shoulder. "OK," she murmured, a little tearful now. "And I want.. to have a nap. In the sun."

Kieran's heart went out to the tiny little white thing. He froze for a moment as he realized this girl, was old enough to be his daughter. Good gods, he chuckled quietly at the thought. It was a fatherly affection he realized now that he felt for her, not that he would tell her that. For fear that he would offend, so he just busied his paws to the task of helping her out.

He brushed a gentle touch across her brow. He was much larger than she, so it was easy to do. Cum along den. We'll git yer settled in de sun, Miss. Bazi. Don't yer worry dat juicy wee noggin av yers.

Bazi sniffed loudly and allowed herself to be led away, keeping as close as possible to Kieran. He would be an invaluable help when size prevented her from doing much walking at all and she was too embarrassed to call upon her mate for help. Damn these puppies, the pale Alpha thought, burrowing her face into her pack mate's dark fur as the trailed along the riverbank in search of a  patch of sunlight.

Concluding post!
