If Njal had taken her up on her offer, Fox's journey had been worthwhile. One more wolf—and one she knew well—was much better than none (and far better than losing another). When the great mountain finally came into her view, Fox pressed herself to move faster. Home called for her. Her family called for her. Her pack called for her. She arrived at the eastern foot of the mountain, the scent of the other three leaders still thick and strong. It was so damn good to be home, she might have cried. Fox had never been much of a traveling type, but she had to admit that the feeling of coming back to base was incredibly satisfying.
Immediately, Fox made her way to the rendezvous site. She didn't spot anybody right away, but she figured her family couldn't be too far off. Instead of calling out for anybody, Fox collapsed onto the ground, rolling onto her back and thrashing back and forth in the grass. Afternoon naps were the best naps, anyway. Eventually, she drifted off to sleep and would surely awake when somebody realized she was home.
