The rocky shores were sharp against the white wolf’s paws. Shiranui stepped lightly, avoiding the most jagged of them. His paws were adept, moving swiftly and assuredly across the stretch of unknown terrain. The pale man had stopped several times to drink from the water. The last time he had lingered on the shores of the lake, he recognized that he was hungry.
As Shiranui paused near the water, where the lake gave way to a series of rivers that chased into the forest, he scanned the flatlands with his eyes. Faint traces of prey could be picked up on the wind. Shiranui sniffed, turning his snout toward the strongest of them. The scent made a trail into the density of the northern trees.
The hunter prowled in pursuit, hoping to find something that would ease the ache of his stomach.
