Autumn sat next to Totoka River thinking. Last time she'd been here was with the white red-eyed cougar. They had talked about legends and the eclipse. She wondered who she might come across today. Perhaps one day she would come here again and remember the creature she met today. Or perhaps she would remember herself sitting alone by the river. Hopefully she would get some company.

i can change if u dont wanna fight, run, or spar! c;
Having left the river, Tethys was using the forest's shadows to her advantage. There was so much to explore in and around the sound, and Tethys often made regular outings to these outlying territories. Today, she had left early at dawn, where Nishu was still asleep, and slipped from the pack borders. Her body enjoyed the cool swim upstream in the Totoka, and she had taken a detour into the misty wood. It reminded her so much of her homeland- with the plentiful water and rainforest pines, sequoias, and ash. Slinking through here was like wearing an old glove.
Her paw froze in mid-step as Tethys' cerulean pools glanced sharply upwards. The wolf had been doubling back to the stream when she spotted the bright orange color of a fox, standing out through the mossy foreground. Initially, Tethys was startled. She wasn't expecting the fox to just be sitting there, for animals usually always fled when they even scented wolf. Perhaps she had been moving too stealthily through the forest, but the fox seemed frozen on her perch above the river. Maybe she was lost in thought? Good enough for the raven female. She despised the creatures- remembering the first time she had seen a fox. Her cousin had killed one that had raided a pack carcass, and there the uncultured hate began. Even more, Caiaphas had mentioned a fox hanging around Ankyra- perhaps this female was the one.
A slow grin crept onto Tethys' lips as she stalked forward, belly low to the ground. When she passed several trunks, the female slid to a halt and wriggled her haunches. She was a mere flash of night against the forest backdrop as Tethys sprung with parted jaws, paws tucked close to her chest.

that's fine with me!
Autumn heard something now that snapped her out of her thoughts. Then she thought she might of been imagining- she didn't hear it again. She looked around her, but there was nobody there. She sniffed the air. But there was... A scent of wolf. She looked around again. Nothing there. Except... A chunk of shadow that seemed to move just a little. You're going all paranoid. Seeing your coywolf enemy again freaked you out. Autumn told herself. Suddenly the shadow leaped at her, it's jaws parted wide. Since when did shadows have fangs? She thought, panicking. She leaped aside just in time to escape those fangs. "I prefer a friendly hello," She said sarcastically with a roll of her eyes, although this was no time to joke.

sorry for late reply, finished up with busy holiday work!
Tethys could feel the grass and leaf mat being pushed from her front paws as she landed on empty air. With a crouch, she steadied her momentum and spun around to face the fox. Her jaws had closed, but a grin had spread across her lips to match the cruel glint glowing in her blue eyes. There was a moment of admiration for the fox- Tethys was much expecting an abrupt, aggressive reaction, but the crooked scavenger had kept her composure. The onyx wolf slunk forward, her tail level but swaying slightly with anticipation. She couldn't wait to see what clever remark the fox would come up with next.
I'm sorry- I didn't think we would have time for pleasantries. She cocked her head to one side, letting a depreciating coo seep into her voice. Let me introduce myself. I'm Tethys.
Halting, Tethys still remained with a lowered skull and tensed forelimbs, eyes steadily locked on her target. Within the darkened forest, the female had already laid out a map of the shadows and hidden paths that she could use to follow the fox, and hopefully steer her to water. Should she decide to run, anyways.

no problem!
At least the hunter had paused to stop hunting- It gave Autumn a little time to think about what to do. "I'm Autumn. Pleasure to meet you, although I'm sure for you it's a pleasure to eat me." She said. Wow, I'm on a roll. She thought. Her mind quickly turned towards noting where to run or hide in some situations. Although it was hard to predict what Tethys might do.

Fox meat was gross. Tethys wouldn't taste any of it even if her life depended on it. The skinny, sleek thing that crouched before her, Autumn, was hardly worth dragging back to the beach, anyways. Instead, she would be only serviced as a plaything for the dark Nereides who affixed her with a glinting stare.
You're not worth eating, Tethys replied in a lazy, informational tone, as if they were discussing the benefits of a tree's shade. Her hind seemed to wriggle a bit in preparation for the pounce, and then the sleek ebony female was at it again, her jaws snapping as she lunged for the fox. But you can still be of some use.

"What use is that?" She asked Tethys. She dodged but the fangs caught a bit of of her flames, tearing a bit of the fur away. She yelped a little. "Could you not? 'Cause that kinda hurts. Hurting is painful. Painful equals no fun. And I'm all about fun!" She said with a swish of her fluffy puffy tail. She grinned mischievously, lashing her tail around and round in the air like a big orange lasso. Her amber eyes glimmered all the while.
