The cat has remained with her master's young apprentice, sneaking bits and pieces of his meals when she could, and sharing bits and pieces of hers whenever she managed to nab a bird or a frog. She hadn't realized they were separating long-term, and at times, she missed the wolf she'd spent the past year or more following around. But time passed differently for such mindless creatures.

Her smooth little brain had little crevices in which sadness could sneak or cling.

The cat napped away another day, her belly full and her whiskers twitching.
