In the last second before his mouth was otherwise preoccupied, Peregrine said simply, "All right." He then bent over the kill, hoisting it into the air. His jade eyes found Lasher's face, capturing his former flame's gaze. He then nodded and turned, sure he felt Taltos's eyes on his back as he cantered out of the bramble forest and back toward the caldera. He wondered what Fox would make of it when he mentioned this encounter.
