Open for anyone that'd come near. :X
Mama and Papa and siblings and relatives are most definitely welcome!

Instead of a midday nap, Pasha fought it. He had flopped about restlessly and quietly as all others could have possibly settled down and snuggled in. But it felt too hot to him, perhaps even too muggy though he had yet the proper words to put to them. Even with the urge to gnaw on things, he found himself drawing a tired gaze towards the dim light that seeped in from the den mouth. That's where the world was, no question about it. That's where all the fun and adventure lay, where he didn't need to settle in for a nap or have to be corralled when the weather turned nasty.
So when he thought that everyone was tucked in and at rest, Pasha began a slow wriggle towards the den mouth, his in progress coordination only lending him so much silence as he snaked about. He could have made a run for it, but he didn't dare. It would have been his luck that he would have come bumping into something, tripping on someone, or even worse, perhaps being caught under the watchful eye of either parent. He drew closer and closer, only pausing when he heard the start of heavy breathing behind him, or even the obvious shuffle of someone diving into dream world. The only real stop he made was when he spied the fringes of white on blue, in awe of the outside world without actually venturing any further into it. Besides, he reasoned in his childish mind — the sun felt good here.

One of his mother's eyes pinged open, triggered by Pasha's paws against the invisible line separating Safe Den from Very Interesting But Dangerous Outside. She unfolded, quietly, and padded after her pensive little son. Pasha seemed to spend a lot of his time thinking about things. Not like Swift, whose intensity was admirable but taxing, but in a manner altogether more whimsical and childish. He might make a good Outrider one day, provided he did not take after Whittier.
"You want to go outside?" she asked, towering over her boy. The tips of her claws brushed his fuzzy flank.

The sun lulled him into rest, briefly. Eyes half-lidded, the world became very hazey and ripe for the depths of imagination to play out somewhere with the clouds that rolled by. This did not last long, if only for the approach of his mother behind him. He registered the touch of her nails microseconds before understanding what it was that she had said; the combination of sensations jarred him smoothly into reality once more. He'd been caught, but there was not a lingering reprimand in the air to be found yet.
He smiled shyly for a moment, wavering between a yes or no as if either answer would turn out for the worst. It was a thoughtful process, but one that he opted to answer with a sure bob of his head and an enthused wave of his tail. Whatever notion of being pushed towards sleepytime was tossed out the window, he wanted to go outside. This would beat sneaking out.

Pasha considered the offer carefully. Swift would have bolted out the door before his mother's lips had closed around the end of the sentence. Bazi gave her son's bum a gentle nudge to encouraged him, and stepped out into the light. Experience had taught her that rotting logs harboured enemies, so she struck that off her mental list of places to visit. The river, maybe? No sensible mother would have taken her children to the edge of Swiftcurrent Creek, but the Bitcurrent was hardly dangerous.
"Come on, then," she urged without turning around.

With the encouraging nudge to guide him, Pasha soon fell into step with his mother as they ventured out. He cast a long look back to the darkening mouth of their den, wondering if they would be joined. But it was swiftly left behind by his glance back, as he did not want to fall behind. Beneath the warmth of the sun and what was a typical summer day of the Wilds, he was already eagerly drawing in the sights. Some familiar, some not. Out here, the sky was limitless and hell, so was the land as far as he knew.
A bounce came into his step then and he picked up his own pace a little bit, this time peering upwards to his mother. "Mama," he said quietly and small. "Youse made of clouds!" She was white, the clouds were white, so... it made complete sense. His mother was made of the clouds. Right?

Pasha did not stray too far from his mother, eyeing his surroundings with cautious interest. A small voice reached Bazi's ears - one she still had trouble associating with her own child. "I'm made of fur and meat, " she corrected before she could catch herself, realised too late, and corrected with a lame "...I think that's harder than clouds. Clouds aren't cuddly." If mist and fog was anything to go by.

Wait, what? Pasha halted for a moment as his mother explained that she was fur and meat, and the hasty explanation thereafter only served to make him ponder a little bit. Clouds weren't cuddly? Skeptically, he gazed at the sky for a moment more.
"Dey hard?" he asked, words slurring together like some lazy Jamaican on a hot summer day. He knew that the opposite of soft was hard, if only from his siblings. Whitter was soft and squishy, anyway, at least in comparison to Swift. He tried not to smash Allure too much for the sake that well, that was his sister and he'd probably squash her. Whitter definitely would. He squashed them all, that jerk.
"Why?" His next question was the measurement of all things. It was the dreaded why, and Bazi had probably just unearthed and opened the worst of all of Pandora's boxes now.

Urgh, so many questions. Bazi herself wasn't entirely sure if clouds were hard or soft - for all she knew, enormous clusters of fluffy willow seed ruled the skies above them. "No, not soft," she told Pasha, crinkling her brow. "I think they're just.. air." She nearly started a sentence with You know when... but stopped. Pasha absolutely did not know when - he had yet to see his first winter, when breath turned to miniature clouds, and she hoped he would have worked things out by then. "I don't know why, either," she shrugged. "When you're older, I'll take you upon Nova Peak. Then you can see for yourself. The clouds just.. go through you. OK?" The mother looked down at her son, hoping that the promise of a future adventure would satisfy his curiosity for now.

tfw you realize this was sitting at the bottom of your threadlog... and unreplied to. oops. do you want to fade with your next post? :C
Just air? Her explanation left something to be desired, but he did not think of the words to continue to investigate the difference. While he now understood that his mother was definitely not quite made of clouds, she still resembled one to him. It was instead the distraction of a promise to see their home from the peak that intrigued him, and he bounced ahead to move more along side her.
"Go now?" he tried, for he was older than he had been moments ago. Pasha even beamed a smile up to his mother, testing his luck all the same. "Big boy!" he assured her with the same pep.

"Big boy!" he insisted. His enthusiasm as infectious, and for a moment, Bazi wondered why she couldn't take him to the mountain. After all, she was not in the business of raising little fraidy-cats. "Alright, maybe," she partially agreed, making sure to communicate a smidgen of hesitation by narrowing her eyes. They would go - not to the actual peak, but to the craggy landscape to the west of the mountain. He could practice there, and earn the right to scale the mountain. "The rule is, you have to climb something smaller first, and prove that you're a big boy. So come on." Bazi gave her son's rump a little nip, urging him on. "Let's go earn those climbing legs."
Let's - refreshed one when mommy comes home. :D
