deres a whale

With a chuff to Heda, @Thuringwethil, Hush ran off to the Sound south and west of the Cliffs. He had seen something from the cliffs, high above the sands below. He might have chocked it up to his sharp eyes had it not been so massive. He was surprised no one had not yet seen it.

To the mute born in landlocked Yellowstone, this behemoth of a creature looked like a giant fish. He had no other place in his mind to label it other than absolutely, positively ma-hoo-sive fish. He hoped, being born by the sea, that Heda would explain what exactly the creature was, but until then, he led her to it, curiosity burning inside him.

When Hush catches her attention, her ears perk forward, but he does not linger long. Instead, he immediately turns on his feet and runs off the way he’d come. She barely has time to react as she sets into motion, concern filling her chest that something is wrong. The mute is often in the background of the things Drageda does but when there is something he needs, Heda isn’t foolish enough to ignore it. She lets herself stem from the anxiety developing as she catches up to the smaller wolf, coming to a stop near the end of the cliffs that border the sound.

Her tongue lolls out the side of her mouth as she slows, coming up beside the wolf as he points with his nose toward the ocean. Uncertain what she is to expect, Thuringwethil steps closer and peers out. At first, she sees nothing, but then the dark length of something surfaces. The impressive creature does not completely show itself but she knows what rests out in the ocean at night. She has not seen one since Seageda and she smiles, turning back to the mute.

“They are guardians,” she explains. “They protect the ocean.”

Whale is not exactly in her common vernacular but they have always lived side by side of those in Seageda. They saw them every once in a while and they welcomed their presence in the ocean waters. “It is the first one I have seen here.”

His ears slick back as the creature surfaces again, and a stream of water and air shoots into the sky. He jumps back at the loud noise, eyes widened with fear, looking to Heda for reassurance. He whimpers softly, wondering what exactly the creature was. Fish never did that, shoot water into the sky.

Heda reassures him, saying that the creatures are guardians. He has little reason to say she is wrong; the creatures, large and magnificent, surely seem to command respect on both land and sea. Hush stares for a moment at the surfacing creatures, then, with a soft chuff, he runs down the slope to the Sound, wondering how close he could get to them.

Thuringwethil watches as Hush process what is in front of him and what information he now has. She doesn’t get the chance to add anything else before he whines, turns tail, and barrels down the way that leads to the south that still touches their borders. Her ears cup forward and she glances out to sea before she sets into a steady trot after the quiet male. She isn’t entirely sure where he’s going, or what his motive is, but she follows along anyway to make sure he doesn’t do anything silly in his heightened state. It is only when she sees him again that she slows down, but until then she goes.
