(Rainier is snoopin'. All welcome.)

They'd made a plan to meet back up at Duck Lake by sundown, which gave him roughly three hours to glean as much information as he could from the locals. Though he was justifiably nervous about approaching a foreign pack's borders, he knew he would have less of a chance at making a positive impression if he brought Carolina along. As resourceful as she was, she was utter shit at social interactions. He didn't hold it against her; he had a pretty good idea as to why she was so abnormal in that regard, but he never really found it prudent to bring up in conversation.

The young Rainier soon came across the distinct scent of wolf piss, and grimaced. He was never fond of being sent on border patrol, but saw the merit in it. Ears turned up, he sniffed at the tuft of grass and found this pack was headed by a dominant female, older than he was. But he wasn't experienced enough to assume much more than that. He didn't dare cross, out of fear for his own hide and respect for others. He turned and trotted in the opposite direction, putting some distance between himself and the pack boundaries before raising his voice to the wind in a gentle alert to those within.
and sweetly she did sing

A stillness had settled over the Wapun Meadow, and Alo was unperturbed. The path she followed, the virtuous life, it gave her the comfort she needed against the loneliness that would have bothered most. Carefully and with the utmost dedicated she had kept the borders strong, feeding when she could and endlessly traveling. Others would come to her in time, the small, still voice of Kamali has assured her of such things. Patience was not one of the true virtues, but it was important nonetheless. It was easier for a patient soul to be charitable, selfless, and loving.

The faint scent of a wolf drifted to her, and Alo responded with earnest curiosity. Long legged and lean she easily devoured the terrain, approaching the strange with a bright gaze and her tail held high, but her pose was otherwise lacking in aggression. Once she had closed the distance between the pair, leaving a few yards between them, she let out a gentle woof of greeting before letting words slip forth. "Welcome to Ookaan."

(It's just Rainier. Carolina is off doing whatever she does. :P)

Rainier was not kept waiting.

The wolf who approached was larger than he was, standing a few inches taller at the shoulder, and her green eyes reflected a keen curiosity at his presence here. What he found lacking, however, was the aggression and pointed attitude of a dominant wolf. Perhaps he had been misinformed by Regulus' constant posturing and grumbling whenever the Basin packs met for their monthly meeting; the old wolf always found fault in his parent's commitment to peace which never sat well with his father.

He was drawn in by what he could only describe as warmth, and returned the friendly sound with one of his own, accompanied by a wag of his bushy tail. His ears twisted forward as he processed the words, the name tangling on his tongue. "Ookaan? What does it mean?" Only after a beat did he remember his manners, and submit himself accordingly before the leader. "S-sorry. I'm Aqu-er, Rainier."
