It felt strange. Haedwig had come to the Teekon Wilds in a group of six, but where was everyone now?
Staring out westward, she wondered if anyone had returned to the forked creek after they all scattered. It was hopeful thinking, but Haedwig raised her head for a hoarse howl that she hoped some of them might hear. She had seen each of them grow up into well-rounded young men and women, she wanted to know they were okay. That Thalassa had found her husband, that Makhai had let himself relax, that Europia wasn't still lost. She wanted Lilith to come back to her, too.
Stood still, she stared out as though one of them might come running to the base of the mountain. Haedwig sighed; she needed to get her mind off of this.

Kira found herself wandering, exploring her new home. It was a nice place and she was so far enjoying it.
A howl pierced the air, making the young wolf curious. She started walking toward the sound, letting out her own howl as she got close. Then, a scent wafted toward her. One that she'd caught a trace of while checking the borders with Kindle, though she wasn't sure she remembered who's scent it was.
As the other wolf came into view, Kira slowly started toward her. "Hello, I'm Kira Lazore. Are you a part of Dawnspear?"

Haedwig felt another's presence join her, and half expected to see her daughter or one of her god children when she turned around. Inevitably, it wasn't.
Haedwig.She returned.
I am. Katmai moved me up the mountain not long ago.Unfortunately, the help had been very much needed. She didn't intend on going back down anytime soon.
I haven't had a chance to meet everyone.Something she should probably get around to. She was a bit reclusive, sure, but Haedwig had lived long enough to know that it was important to be familiar with packmates.

Kira padded just a bit closer to Haedwig. "Hello, I'm Kira Lazore. I just joined the mountain here recently. I also have not met everyone, though I'm apparently working my way through them all."
Her mind wandered to all the people she'd met so far. It wasn't very many, but she was getting around to all of them, slowly but surely. The pack meeting wasn't too far off, and she'd be able to meet all of them then.
"Kindle recruited me a couple days ago," she said. "I'm really happy to find somewhere."

Haedwig raised a brow when the girl repeated her name, but did not question it. Did Kira think she was hard of hearing?
Haedwig say herself down, deciding it might be best to let her bones rest for a while.
I'm glad to have a home for the winter. She grunted in return.
A mountain wasn't what I had expected, but everything happens for a reason.

But my stories are no fun. Tell me what got you here.More like she just didn't want to tell her own stories, really.

Kira hadn't even realized she introduced herself twice. She was so excited, and nervous at the same time.
"Oh, yes, it does feel like everything happens for a reason," said Kira. "I never would have thought I'd find a place, but I happened to meet the right wolf."
The young wolf sat down as well. "I'm sure your stories are fun," she said. "But, I'm not sure what brought me here. Just...luck, I guess. I've been travelling on my own for a while. I heard Kindle howl and he brought me into the pack."

Haedwig supposed that she was a dispersal from a family pack. They tended to have relatively peaceful lives, from those she had known.
Maybe we both got lucky then.
But I'm sure someone your age has some ambitions.Haedwig made the decision to continue prodding - as the resident old lady, it came with the job description.
I've been a healer my whole life, so it's what I'll do here too.

Kira's head dipped with uncertainty. "I spent a lot of time just hoping I made it to the next day," she said, quietly. "That's been my only ambition for so long. Now, that I've found a pack, I suppose my ambition would be to help the others."
It came out anxiously, as if she wasn't sure she was saying the right thing. Though, a moment later, she spoke again, more confident. "I'm going to find my own calling in this pack." The words were determined. It was one thing she decided since joining.

Haedwig managed a smile at Kira's response. It wasn't a bad way to look at things.
Well, I hope you do.She clicked her tongue, shaky old legs pushing her back to a steady stand.
Maybe you can come with me to forage the next time I go, see if you take a liking to that. The suggestion was mostly made out of Haedwig's penchant for pulling young people into doing her heavy lifting, but she did enjoy teaching those who could shut up and listen.
I'm going back to my den though. It's too hot.Whatever wise old lady moment she was having zipped away and returned to her usual grump.

Kira nodded. "I'd like that," she said. Foraging was as good a skill to learn as any other. And Haedwig seemed like she'd be a good teacher, in the few moments since they'd met. "I look forward to it!"
The young wolf let out a chuckle. "I will let you go cool down," she said before turning away, just a bit. "It was very nice to meet you." She started to trot off to find something to do.
