Elwood confirmed that pups might come alone one day, though not anytime soon. Peregrine was torn on that front. On one hand, he wanted his offspring to have no competition so they could have total domination over the pack's resources—at least for the first six months or so. On the other, he would love to see his Betas as parents right now. He was sure their children would be adorable, a nice mix of sweet and crazy like their mom and dad.

"Maybe their cousins will help raise them," Peregrine mused with a smile. Even a six-month age difference could be a fairly wide gap when it came to wolf pups. "I wonder if any of them will be Caretakers. Or Gamekeepers. Or Wardens. Or... well, you get the idea." He laughed. What would his kids grow up to do? "Wifi's totally gonna be a Naturalist. I'm calling it now. She's already so curious about the world around her. And I'd love for Nightjar to become a Warden, maybe, and I could see Raven going for Caretaker or Counselor. But they're still so young and I'm trying not to create crazy expectations in my head. I kinda did that with the last batch."

And while he hadn't pressured any of them or anything along those lines, he'd definitely established expectations with no basis in reality. For instance, he had hoped to fashion Osprey Jr. into a formidable Gamekeeper. But she'd become a Warrior and Outrider instead. It had disappointed him at the time, which was silly. Of course his children should pursue their passions, not worry about fulfilling their parents' arbitrary dreams for them. Peregrine hoped to foster his newest children's interests in every possible way, no matter what they were.
