Saena made a conscious effort to keep her distance from Lacinia, but did seat herself in the tall grass to listen. There was a chance the strange woman could redeem herself from her out of place suggestions. As the younger of the pair preened her ears in a picture of attentiveness, Lacinia explained that where she'd come from, there was only silence. Saena was puzzled by the enigma, but said nothing in response. The present indicated that Lacinia had left that place, and was probably looking for something new—potentially a good sign for Saena, who was in the process of actively recruiting loners to her cause.

Just before she could extend a tentative invitation with the knowledge that she would need to watch the dark female carefully, Lacinia asked a question that was just as out of place and bizarre as her massage offer. "Uh, a lot," Saena naively said, believing that Lacinia was asking how many male wolves she'd encountered in her short life, which was many. She, being far too young to tap into sexuality, couldn't think of the question any other way. "What the hell kind of question is that? Were there no males where you came from or something?"
