This looked lonely. :)
His gray eyes were focused as he ran towards the scampering rat. He had driven it out of the hole from whence it had come from and now he was in hot pursuit. The very idea that he was barreling through unknown territory mattered little to the hungry boy. His stomach growled and contorted as if he hadn't eaten in weeks. His jaws snapped at the air as the rat dodged him seemingly effortlessly. He never noticed the land beneath his large paws changing from lush green to more rocks and cracks. He could feel the warmth of his land pulsating into his paws, but he paid it no mind. He was completely focused. Completely enveloped by the task at hand.
The beast darted left just as his jaws clamped down the feeble death squeal of the rat sounded like music to his starving stomach. He tore into the supple flesh and devoured the creature and like a little boy he didn't have the patience to savor his food. The creamy inside of his oak colored ears were perked and rotating as he attempted to figure out where exactly he was. The wanderer, at least he thought he was, had been to many place, at least he thought he had, but he had never been here before. No, he was lost, but could a boy with no home truly be lost? The philosophical discussion was wasted on him, but what wasn't was the idea of being loyal to home. He thought of his elder brother Bold Heart, the Loyalist. One day Oak Maniitok would call a pack and a land home and he would prove his loyalty, but for now he was just the eternal wanderer, hungry and confused.
He moved forward as he knew that nothing of interest resided behind him. As he crossed a natural stone bridge his gray gaze fell on another wolf. It had been days since Oak Maniitok had seen another wolf. He could see that this was a full grown male and by the body Oak Maniitok could tell he was a formidable foe. With his paw firmly on the oddly warm Earth he let out a little woof. alerting the other male to his presence.
