He didn't think of the possibility of a wolf beneath him challenging him first. The ridge wolves didn't seem overly ambitious. Aside from the first over the meal, there hadn't been any rank squabbles. Either they were all content to remain where they were, which would make the pack very stable indeed, or they were all waiting for something.
