Though Deirdre was content to return to sleep, little Emaleth felt unsettled and restless; she felt another Change that she did not understand. For though she had traveled to the Otherworld and had met someone new, it hadn't occurred to the child that someone new could pass the threshold into the den. Casmir and Eilidh were as one with The Bringer and Giver; their relation to her would be clear to her in time, but for now they had always simply been. She could no longer remember a time without any of them.
But this snowy creature shifting in the den's entrance was not The large white form Emaleth knew, and she burbled to her companion curiously. "Look," she urged Deirdre. "What's this?" When her sister did not wake, the child gave a wistful look at this new Being, and reluctantly moved to her sister's side and slumber there, leaving the stranger to wonder at their door.
