They seemed to notice each other at the same time for, as Sica began to back up, the larger canine's strides lengthened. His ears flattened and a small, wavering growl escaped his throat; he knew he had little chance of striking fear into the wolf. His own heart began to hammer in his chest and the coyote continued his backwards scrabble, trying to find a place he could escape to, just like the crab had moments before.

He froze as waves suddenly lapped at his hind legs. Well, no more backing away. He could swim, but he was not the strongest, especially against the currents of the ocean. Especially when pursued by someone much larger and stronger. Running didn't seem to be the best of options either. Fur along his shoulders bristling, Sica instead steeled himself and turned to face the savage head on, greeting her sprint towards him with a challenging snarl.
