The pups were surprisingly cooperative, perhaps too caught up in the excitement of the caravan to make a break for it. Of course, the peaceful procession didn't last forever. Ferret swiped at his father's tail, which Peregrine needed more than usual to maintain balance on only three legs. He flicked it out of the pup's grasp, then whirled and licked the little bandit's face so emphatically, he would be surprised if it didn't bowl him over.

Facing forward again, the decrepit Alpha male continued leading the march and it wasn't long before they arrived at the top of the sweeping slope with its stunning view of Lake Rodney. It felt like coming home, which made sense considering this was where they lived ten months out of the year. The sudden nostalgia that struck him took Peregrine a bit by surprise, though. He suddenly remembered the day they'd brought the last three Firebirds here and he felt his chest throb with a dull ache. He missed them so much.

Shaking his head and clearing his throat, Peregrine distracted himself by bellowing, "WELCOME HOME, BOYS!" and then plopping onto his haunches, using his good leg to motion them forward. Go play!
