Freedom was a blessing for some, but Zeke didn't know how to deal with it. All he knew was that he would never be his mother's soldier again. She would never lead him into another useless and bloody battle. He didn't kill anymore, those days were behind him.

Mountains like this one were foreign territory to him. He liked the vivid paintings of the midday horizon, for they didn't ask him questions or bug him. They were simply pleasant. The bulky warrior bent down his black nose to sniff at a dandelions. He'd discovered that he quite like the simple things. They made him happy.
