He had decided to look into his options the moment Lasher had made known to him the possible hope beyond the mountains, yet Peregrine had not yet acted on his decision. He hadn't even floated it past Fox yet. He supposed he was secretly hoping the tables would turn, the situation would change and he wouldn't have to depart his family for a week or more, leaving them to fend for themselves while he desperately sought greener pastures. He was in no way looking forward to such an expedition, though he knew he must face facts within the next couple of days. A glimpse of Peter's skinny ribs was a stark reminder of that... if the hourglass hadn't already run out on them.

When Peter began to chew his ear, Peregrine didn't protest. In fact, he leaned into it, making it easier for the boy. "If you want to eat it, I'm a willing sacrifice," he mused. It was true too. If Peregrine could spare his body parts to keep his pups fed, he would do it. He would donate his ears, his nose, his tail, maybe a few of his toes. He didn't need any of them. Hell, they could even have his bum eye. It was a morbid thought, though the Alpha would do anything to keep his babies healthy.
