Her maroon eyes were locked on the river, counting fish as they went by and noting their size. Those that looked smaller then her paw she cast aside, but if they were slightly bigger, she would watch for a chance. Most of these larger fish seemed close to the rocks, but it was impossible to judge exact distance with the warped view beneath the surface.
After a minute of waiting, the flash of scales above the water pulled her attention away from the fixed location, and at this point she'd completely forgotten about Sadie. It wasn't big enough to fill her, but not small enough that it wouldn't be worth catching. The activity near her had caused the fish to panic, which was the only reason the scaley creatures were so close to the surface, or at least in her mind it was. The dark female quickly readied herself to act, moving her head down as the fish swam closer. She snapped when it was in front of her, feeling her jaws close around the squirming body of her prey. Lifting it out, she took a few struggling steps away and dropped her prize on the rocks and pinned it in place with a paw to deliver a crunching bite to the head.
She let herself fall into a more comfortable position to eat the fish. Her stomach drove her to devour the fish as quickly as possible, and begged for another when the first was finished. Instead of taking the step towards the river, she stayed where she was and chewed on the bones. Only then did she remember the other wolf. She held a bone between her jaws as she tilted her head.
