Tambourine wasn't familiar with the term bedlam but he was about to experience it firsthand. First, a furious Tavi came charging onto the scene, bowling into the already injured Harlyn. Seconds later, another figure appeared, someone the boy recognized as a newer arrival in the Keep. He came to stand over the downed Harlyn, his tail rigid over his hips as a savage snarl skinned his lips back from his teeth. By now, the pup's eyes had flown wide and he had leaned backward in the face of such unexpected mayhem. Then he gathered his wits and sprang in the direction of Tavi's legs, still more confused than frightened but definitely downright perplexed by this sudden whirlwind of wolves.

Only, it got even worse. Even as he made a bid for safety, Tambourine felt something hit his neck, sharp little pricks of agony sinking into the soft flesh. He gave a small cry, yet the pain only worsened as his attacker's grip tightened, the pressure squeezing the breath from the suddenly squirming tot.
