It perplexed him when a stranger approached, her features making him think of her as Fox's uglier sister. Blaming the fever for that errant thought, Peregrine stiffened as she approached him. He would usually warn away a new member from this highly guarded space where his family resided, yet there was no sign of them and he had summoned somebody, anybody, and here was anybody personified. He could scarcely fault this subordinate for obeying his command and coming at his beck and call.

"Yes, it was," he said, voice sounding as sluggish and groggy as he felt. "First, though, who are you?" he demanded, voice a little brusque.

Introductions were promptly exchanged and while Peregrine would typically want Nashoba to stick around so he could get to know her a little better, he was in no condition for small talk. And though he did try asking, she didn't know much about the pack's innermost goings-on. So he apologized and excused himself to go wait elsewhere, sure that someone more knowledgeable would have heard his howl and might show up any minute to get him up to speed.
