"You pick," the youngster said and Peregrine pondered that a moment before telling him, "Okay. But I'm gonna get to know you a bit better, make sure I pick something that fits. Sound like a plan?" He waited for a sign of assent from him, then bobbed his head, "Yeah, I promise. If your dad was here, he'd tell you I'm a man of my word too. C'mon, I'll take you back to the caldera. I have f—three boys your age: Ferret, Gannet and Whip. You'll like them."

There was a lot more to tell him about his (temporary or permanent) new home, yet Peregrine held his tongue as he motioned for the pup to follow him. He turned toward the caldera in the distance and broke into a steady but not overly quick gait, to make sure the younger wolf could keep pace. He didn't say anything for a while, getting lost in thoughts of how badly Fox would beat him for bringing the boy home, but he knew he'd stick up for the little guy. And maybe, just maybe, his mate wouldn't mind the distraction from their recent tragedy.

"Your dad," Peregrine spoke up abruptly, breaking the silence and glancing sideways at his young charge, "was himself a Redhawk once. That's where we're going: Redhawk Caldera. I'm its Alpha... well, one of them." He paused, wondering how no-longer-Stoic would receive this information.
