Emberwood hunger

He hurt – he cried. The fall and rise of his chest was the only thing that kept him from reeling as he tried to steady his breath, and as the woman still continued to come closer, refusing to simply leave him alone, he cried harder. Why wouldn’t she go away? What did she even want?
 
“G-g-o awaaaaayy,” his words turned in to a wail, and Pippin hiccupped in the middle of his cry. He curled further in to himself, whimpering softly at the pain that shot through his leg. How was he going to get to Lost Creek Hollow like this? Larkspur would never come to him now, and in that moment, the boy slumped further, his crying slowly fading as Pippin finally relented to everything.
