When such information wasn't forthcoming, he realized she must be pausing to allow him time to absorb and react to the initial bombshell.

Peregrine's lips parted as he struggled to figure out which of the millions of questions in his head to voice. Eventually, he settled on, "Where are you going? And why?" There was no accusation in his tone, nor a plea. He assumed Osprey hadn't made this decision lightly and he certainly wouldn't be trying to talk her out of it. But he wanted to understand what was happening in his sister's and her family's life.
