Pippin was not so stupid to believe he had managed to outrun his to-be kidnappers – clearly, his tenacity had won him this round. But little did he know it was possible he ran to his death now, and as quickly as he could scramble away and seek a hiding spot, the boy would do so. He would remain tucked away in the hollow of a tree for days to come, not daring to move – only until hunger and thirst would finally drive him from there. His paw would feel better now – the damage having been a sprained muscle that required rest, but he walked with a distinguished limp as he sought out Lost Creek Hollow. Never before had the runt of the family been more determined.
