She was not one for many words – which was fine, for neither was he. His gaze studied her quietly as she spoke, and he withheld a light frown to her answer. She was healing nicely now – but was it not Marbas’ teeth that had done the girl injustice in the first place? Had it been her family?
He felt his jaw tighten at the thought, only then guessing whether the wolf’s death had been warranted. “How come?” It was not a question directed as a demand – he simply hoped for insight as to why she could not possibly wish to be placed back in to the arms in which he had assumed she had been snatched in the first place.
