A voice had distracted him from his daily routine of scratching markings into the rocks and trees that lined the borders, symbols that would protect them against the beasts that lurked to the east. His encounters so far had been nothing but worrying and he did not wish for any to come anywhere near their sacred church. He had just finished carving a crude etch into a tree trunk when he heard the call, large ears pricking in the direction it came from.

Cautiously, the priest padded to where the man waited and, upon seeing him, immediately sized the stranger up. He was a large creature, though seemed friendly enough. Phares offered him a polite though slightly withheld smile, drawing to a stop a few feet away with an air of formality. "Greetings," he said, catching the other's gaze which was such a pure and warm yellow that they disarmed the priest for a moment.
