He felt more and more distant from his family, and his anxious thoughts were becoming oppressive— so oppressive that he avoided those that cared for him, not wanting to burden them with his feelings. It'd be different if he were a girl, like Szabala. He was supposed to be strong and confident and brave, but Dublin was none of those things. Worse, he didn't really have anyone to talk to about it. His father and uncle were both gone. His role models had left him to fend for himself.
The weather didn't help. There was little to do, and the best way to stay warm was to stay concealed within the forest and their dens.
Today, though, he strayed near the forest's edge, then took a brave step upon the glacier at its rear. He wasn't sure if he had ever been this far from the den before, and the cold had Dublin second guessing himself, but the more fearful he felt the more determined he became to go in that direction. Either he would die, or he would overcome it.
