She looked to be about his age, but his complete opposite. Black and graceful to his white and leggy. But not a threat. In fact, she was downright friendly when she introduced herself, and the suspicion fled his expression in favor of a smile.
”Gannet,” he responded, making no real connection with her name. He’d never been big on mythology. She said she thought he might not want to be disturbed, but that didn’t really make sense to him. “Why’d you stop?” It was as frank and straightforward as his questions usually were, and had that same honest and curious tone to it. If she thought he didn’t want her to, why did she stay?
